Hi NRT-RK:
I've had/have issues with PerfectDisk 2008 and NIS 09 also (see this thread: http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=7500.
You messagedoes not state if there is any error message before it restarts? Prior to build 64 I was not able to do a boot defrag at all. Build 64 enabled me to at least be able to defrag my c drive (but defragging a hard drive with partitions will not work except for the first partition, and computers with a second hard drive aren't touched with XP. Vista computers will allow me to defrag two hard drives... but not more than one partition on each harddrive).
I've contacted Raxco, and they said:

I have Intel PIII system,256MB RAM,WinXP-sp2 OS installed.
Whenever I run Boot-time defrag which is a feature of 'Perfect Disk 2008, build 64', it stops as soon as it starts and the system restarts, asking me whether to 'Start Windows Normally','Safe mode' etc. After choosing the option to start windows normally, the computer boots up properly. However, boot-time defrag is never run.
This has been happening after installing NIS2009. 'Advanced Heuristics protection' is in 'Automatic' and the rest of the settings are as it is when the product was installed.'Early load' is disabled.
I have tried disabling NIS service from 'services' window and also tried disabling 'Auto-protect' for an hour. But, the problem still exists. How do I correct this issue?
That was weird... I highlighted the message from Raxco and hit the quote message button (thinking it would put quotes around it... but it quote your message instead. Here is what Raxco said:

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for contacting Raxco support.
There is an issue with the current version of Norton and PerfectDisk. We are looking into it. When I have more information, I will let you know.
DESCRIPTION:
Product: PerfectDisk 2008
Windows Version: Windows XP

Thank you for the 'link',discussing the issue. There are no error messages, it just does not run. The issue is not solved for me since I have installed XP in partition E: and you have mentioned that boot-time defrag does not work for other partitions except C: . Hope they find a solution for this as soon as possible.
I have PD and NIS 2009 and my boot defrag runs just fine after updating PD to build 64. Have you tried running a Scan Disk Check?
Dieselman:
What partition do you have your OS installed in? PerfectDisk defrags the first partion of a harddrive (or the whole harddrive if there is only one partition) with no problems. It won't boot defrag the other partitions though (i.e. he stated he had installed his OS on his e partition). In XP I have found that it also will only defrag the 1st harddrive (i.e. for computers with two harddrives, the 2nd hardrive even if it is just has one partition it won't be defragged), while on Vista the first partition on both harddrives will be defragged. The issue isn't an error with the NTFS - system files, but some sort of conflict between NIS 09 and Perfectdisk (both Norton and Raxco have acknowledged this).
Matthew
I have 2 hard drives. Windows is on my āCā drive and all my MP3ās and games are on my āFā drive. My pagefile is on my āFā drive for maxium performace. If I scedule a system file boot defrag for my āCā drive it works.
Will it boot-defrag your 'F' drive?
Matthew
There is no sense it defragging my āFā drive cause there are no system files or boot files on that drive.
I can't find an 'edit' button in these forums.... Are you running XP or Vista? Is each of your harddrives partitioned or one large volume?
XP - defrags c drive ok, but not second harddrive (or any secondary partitions).
Vista - defrags 1st and 2nd hard drives... but no secondary partitions (just 1st partition on each drive).
Matthew
Some folks like me, may have their pagefile on the 2nd drive for increased performance. Eitherway, the question/problem is not whether a person has system files on the 2nd harddrive (or partition) but the fact that PerfectDisk is unable to boot defrag it. The poster you responded too has his OS on his E drive. He is not able to defrag it as a result.
