Persistent Problems With NIS on Windows 8.1 Pro

I've had Norton Internet Security on my Windows 8.1 Pro laptop for around a year.  During this one year period, I have had many reoccurring problems.  The most common problem is being unable to run a quick scan, full scan, or any type of virus scan on my computer.  This happens about once or twice a month, and is only fixed by waiting for a patch to come in, or re-installing Norton..  Three times Norton has caused Windows Explorer to stop working.  One time, when I went to use the remove and re-install tool, it removed Norton, but when it went to re-install, it said I had never had Norton on my computer.  What makes this situation even more frustrating is the fact that another computer I have running Windows 8.1 Standard with Norton Internet Security has had no problems what-so-ever. 

The main reason I'm posting here is to see if anyone knows why Norton Internet Security keeps having these same problems on my computer.  I am extremely frustrated and tired of Norton not working.  Does any one have any ideas why my computer is struggling so much with Norton?

I have an HP ProBook 4540s running Windows 8.1 Professional.
