Got a puzzler. A few times a year, for no particular reason, I run NPE just to check if any viruses or malware have been missed by NIS or some of the other tools I run. Every time NPE runs, it claims to have found a bad file: procexcp152.exe , in the windows\system32\drivers directory. The problem is I can find no evidence of such a file existing. When click for NPE to locate it, there's no such file there. Opening an Explorer window and clicking to display hidden files and system files, nothing. I even tried searching the directory via a DOS window but no such file can be found. Once, when I was on a chat session with a Norton rep, for an unrelated problem, he saw the same thing. He tried to find the file, but could not and eventually told me to just ignore it. Which is what I've been doing.
But since I ran NPE last weekend and got the same result, my curiosity was piqued again. Anyone have any thoughts ? I do run Process Explorer but its' executable is procexcp.exe. No '152' at the end
