Ping Problem

Hello

I have a Belkin router (Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1  Mask 255.255.255.0) et two PCs. Both are protected by Norton 360 4.0. TGMPC01, the first one, runs Windows XP with adress 192.168.1.3 (mask 255.255.255.0) et the other one, TGMPC02, runs Windows 7 with adresss 192.168.1.5 (mask 255.255.255.0). TGMPC01 can ping TGMPC02 without problems but TGMPC02 cannot ping TGMPC01 ( either host unreachable or request time-out).
When I go to Norton 360 | Settings | MyNetwork, TGMPC02 sees the thre network elements: TGMPC2, the router Belkin AND TGMPC01...
Where is the problem? I tried by adding a rule but still got the same problem ?   Any clues why I can't ping ?
Thanks for your help

Hi,

Welcome to the norton forum.

If i got it right, your XP PC can ping Win 7 pc. But Win 7 PC cannot ping XP PC.

In order to find whether the issue is due to Norton or due to the Win 7 network settings, you could try this.

1. disconnect from internet  (ur computers talk through the router) -- safety measure

2. turn off N360 firewall in win 7 PC and check if you can ping XP PC (do not turn on windows firewall)

3. turn off N360 firewall in XP PC and check if you can ping XP PC (do not turn on windows firewall)

4. turn off N360 firewall in both Win 7 PC and XP PC and check if you can ping XP PC (do not turn on windows firewall)

If you can ping at step2 \3\4, you might need to create firewall rule or make modifications in the trust levels in MyNetwork. If you cannot ping with N360 firewalls off, the issue 'might' be with Win 7 network settings.

Thanks
