Please help! I think our computer shut down automatically!

Hello. Tonight, I noticed on NIS history that it appears that there was a shut down of our computer that was unaccounted for.

At 7:10 tonight, a user logged off. After that, I wasn't around, so I didn't see what happened. Then, at 7:31, it says "Firewall has been enabled". My father says the computer was off when he came out around this time, so he turned it on.

I checked Norton and there was no report of a virus infection and Microsoft's security history had no reports of anything unusual. Is there any way for me to determine if this is a virus or error or something? Thanks.

Do you have Windows 7?

I received an update to Windows 7 on two laptops which strangely on one required a reboot.  Check if Windows Update was the cause of the restart.

KB2762895

Yeah, we have Windows 7, but we didn't install the update.

Ok, I’m sorry. It turns out it was a false alarm. My mother accidentally shut off the computer when she was finished earlier tonight. Sorry about that.

No need for apologies - It's better safe than sorry.

Thanks for letting us know.

You’re welcome. Thanks for the quick response.
