This is my fisrt real post. I have been having a couple of port scans. one of them is from Hebei china address 121.18.13.100, and also address 74.63.225.44 which is limestone network. Both of these several scans in the last two weeks . My internet has been up and down since the 25th due to outage, and other internet probs trying to resolve right now. Any help would do with 20 less days left on subscription, I don't know what to do. Also antiphising disabled on IE8 Norton 360 3.2?? It has me restart if I click the help and support button pops up red.
There is not much you can do about the port scans - they are just a fact of life on the internet. These types of intrusion attempts are the reason that firewalls exist. You Norton program is keeping you safe by blocking the connections. As for the antiphishing issue with IE8, there have been reports of this issue and it is being investigated. really appreciate you helping me. What is bittorrent and DDos new terms to me? Also on the firewall to the router. The only thing I have is a cable modem that plugs into the computer. Any recommended firewall since I already have norton 360? Oh by the way just checked recent history and guess what china again.
MacWindows7 was referring to the fact that a router acts as a hardware firewall because it uses Network Address Translation, which will automatically stop any unsolicited internet traffic from reaching your computer. If you were behind a router you would never see any alerts from the Norton Firewall for inbound traffic because the router prevents port scan communications from getting through to your PC. It is a relatively inexpensive added layer of security which is recommended by many experts for users on broadband connections, even if they only use a single computer.
BitTorrent is for online file sharing (which I'm sure you haven't done, and for safety, probably shouldn't do), where large files are downloaded from other people on the internet. DDoS is a distributed denial-of-service attack where hundreds of computers controlled by a botnet are used to send more requests to a server than the server can handle, thus making the site unreachable.
Sorry it took so long been having an issue with missing files. Any way the block port scans have decreased a lot within the last month. My internet has been back up finally as of right now nothing going on with it. The only thing that frustrated me was seeing all of those port scans in my history I used the ip address locator lot was from china and japan and with a couple from US. After emailing norton and seems that after a couple of weeks stopped. Still see one or two from time to time. I'm just glad norton was able to block them. But there shld be a way to report them if you get too many.
