Possible Issue with Update Servers (North East US)

I'm running Norton 360 22.20.5.39.  I noticed yesterday that I had a bunch of failed automatic live updates.  I ran manual live update and it was VERY slow, with some updates coming through while others were failing.  I checked with another Norton user in my area and he was seeing the same thing.  After a few hours the update check began working normally, and I picked up a few small updates.

Now there hasn't been any updates in over 20 hours, where I usually get a small update here or there.  I usually see this issue a few times a year and it always ends up being an issue with the update servers.

I understand the cloud based nature of 360 and that I'm still protected ... but just wanted to bring attention to a possible issue with the update servers, at least the ones I'm connecting to.

Thanks

Assume we will all get days added to our subscription status for Norton's failure to provide these services until fixed.

HAHAHA, don't count on it!
They might, but I sincerely doubt it. I mean, they MIGHT tack on a few days if you ask for them, but they sure as hell will not voluntarily do any such thing as an unsolicited courtesy.

Besides, your protection was not affected due to the reliance on real time online definitions which are not connected to LiveUpdate.

Indeed. It was stressful, unsettling, and a nuisance pain in the arse, but ultimately not that big a deal to warrant "reaprations".  This aint BLM!
LMAO!! laugh
Seriously though, that's exactly why I do not expect, much less anticipate, any kind of "extra days" added to subscriptions or any other compensations.
Maybe if the entire product (or key elements of it, like the LU module) failed to load or work at all, that'd be another story, cos THAT would be a definite security risk.

Just an update from Alberta Canada :

As of Aug 24 @ 9:15 AM (MST), I got a CC of a message from one of these threads, and I gave my LU another go, and BAM! 2 updates! One of which was the SDS (Virus) definitions! Huzzah!
I have also manually prompted LU twice more since then til now and both sessions got updates. Looks like things are back on track.
I hope it lasts and does not derail.

Weekends can sometimes have fewer updates on the weekends.

I've never notcied that. Some days can indeed have more or less updates than another on any given instance, but weekends/holidays have never been a factor, and it would be pretty stupid if it were - it's not like hackers (or malicious code for that matter) ever takes a day off.

I received the patch, which included 5 updates, at 21:33 BST yesterday (24/8) and 5 minutes ago I got 2 more updates via LiveUpdate. It seems fine to me.

I'm still not 100% sure everything is OK either.  My live update appears to be working again, but the 'days remaining' under subscription status may still not be updating.  Myself and others noticed the days remaining stopped updating the same time that live update stopped.  If I check my subscription status manually under the help menu it would update the days remaining.  But currently it looks like the days remaining may not be updating automatically.  I'll keep an eye on it but so far this value hasn't updated in over 24 hours.

It's not just Norton 360 and Norton Security that's having LiveUpdate communications issues...

Norton Mobile Security (Android version in my case) LiveUpdate function is also failing...

If you take a look at the Activity Log in the Norton App you'll notice that the only thing it shows since this "issue" began is "LiveUpdate finished" followed by either the time of day or the Dates it "communicated?" with a LiveUpdate Server.

Normally it would aditionally show either "Norton Mobile Security Virus Definitions is already the latest version", or "MSE Config is already the latest version" entries , or a "Norton Mobile Security Virus Definitions updated to version xxxxxxx (where xxxxxxx i.e. = 20200806008)" entry.

So at present, the Norton App(s) is/are also failing to retrieve info (status, and/or updated codes) from the Norton Servers...

Cheers!

John

Automatic LU appears to be working. I got the earlier patch and 2 other updates. Just a short while ago, LU ran and downloaded a whitelist update. Appears things are indeed in order again.

Cheers

Gems are reappearing on LiveUpdate.
The wait has aged me terribly.

We have fixed this issue. Thank you.

UK Based - picked up SDS defs for today only plus a patch. No more LUD's available after applying patch

It seems like they fixed it.

Just received a patch. Now definitions are up to date.

But considering what is looking like ALL customers nationwide being affected, I don't see them offering even a SINGLE extra day on all those subscriptions, much less the actual number of days we're left hanging. That would probably add up to several years' worth of subcription service, and "lost revenue".

And even if they do actually throw us a bone, that bone will hardly have any meat on it - maybe ONE extra day tacked on per customer, despite the total number of days we failed to receive updates, thereby quite potentially being left more and more vulnerable with each passing day - cos while Norton is dragging their feet, being clueless, and not getting updates rolled out several times every day, hackers and other scumbags are just getting further ahead of the game.

As evidenced by how long it takes Norton to become aware of issues (only because CUSTOMERS have to inform them 90% of the time), customer service/care is NOT their top priority. Making money is.

Ran live update this morning and there was a patch, restarted, but still no definition updates.

Just chiming in to say that the same issue has reached me here in Calgary AB Canada (for those who don't know where that is, Alberta is basically north of Montana).

My last LU session was Aug 22, but that is when I manually prompted for the updates, which were last issued on August 21.

I managed to avoid any LU errors in recent days, just going right into the persistent "no new updates" thing since the last successful updates were retrieved and applied on the 22nd.

Other than that peculiarity, and the fact my Subscription Status did not automatically deduct a day (this morning) when it should have at 6 AM, I got green checkmarks all across the board here.

Hi,

We are sorry about the inconvenience caused. We are aware of this issue. We are working on a fix. The issue will be resolved in a few hours. I'll post an update once we have fixed it. Please run LiveUpdate again after a few hours. Thank you.

Just clicked on Live Update manually and got one NGC Product Update but ran Live Update again right after the Hotfix and still no other updates.  The UI still shows last update was on Aug. 21st.

It's now a known issue, but Norton Services Status still shows everything in the green?  How many customers are probably trying to reinstall when it has nothing to do with the issue ...

Same here in BC Canada ... no updates on several computers in our home since Aug. 21st.
