First post and can't find a forum for this. Today got a phone call, private number (no ID), from an Indian call centre. Woman said she was from Microsoft and that my internet connection showed signs of virus activity and they wanted to check. I asked a couple of questions and there were English language issues but she sounded like she was reading a script and didn't appear to have technical knowledge, just repeating a couple of lines. She wanted me to download irs.exe from a website with some odd English expressions on it (like 'blue screen to death'), with Russian given as the alternative language. When I said I was googling irs.exe she hung up.
I was perhaps overcautious, but I am curious to know whether this is a genuine Microsoft practice.
