Hello everyone.
My question; is my computer infected with a virus/malware? My Norton 360 scanner doesn't detect any problems after scanning.
I have detected some JPEG, MOV, and a variation of music files that are corrupted. The corruption is apparent as it shows a portion of the thumbnail is in black, pink, yellow and other colours; and when I open the file, it shows the corruption too. The same thing is happening to the MOV files as well. The songs on the computer cannot be played. It seems to be spreading as I see more files are getting corrupted everyday. Also, every time I open an unaffected JPEG and MOV files, they become corrupted immediately.
Previously, before I was aware of the corruption, I have copied some JPEG files to a thumb drive (the JPEG were all fine back then). The JPEGs in the thumb drive showed the same signs of corruption too when I was browsing them not long ago. I thought the files in the thumb drive were damaged due to other means and not to a virus. But, now I'm starting to believe it's a virus attack, as more files are corrupted over time on the computer. The thumb drive's capacity is 4 GB and it is full. I have formatted the thumb drive and it shows 4 GB free space. I have tried to put in 4 GB worth of files into the thumb drive after formatting it, but I was only able to put in about 3 GB worth of files and it says its full. What is wrong with the thumb drive?
I own a Norton 360 scanner, and I have scanned the computer yesterday. The scan was completed and it showed that it only scanned 5000+ files without any problems detected. Today I have re-scanned it, it showed about more than 150000 files were scanned without any problem detected.
If it is a virus/malware attack, why didn't my Norton 360 pick it up? Also, what do i do?
