Norton Power Eraser found/flagged up file {9F86F540-51A6-4590-BE4C-7EDC67E2AFAB}_System Diagnostics...as a potential threat.....Does anybody know what this is?? Cheers
Please do not let Norton use the Login option and the power erase. They did that on my computer when I called on how to remove pop ups that I had been seeing for a couple of weeks. The tech logged into my computer and used the Norton erase and said they would restart my computer - it never restarted because the erased my windows files. I had to take it to a professional to fix and it cost me over $100. Norton said they didn't remove it but the tech told me that they couldn't have been in my computer without the Windows file. Norton refused to take responsibility and asked for a report from the tech but told me that it wouldn't change the outcome of their investigation which was "not there fault". DO NOT LET THEM INTO YOUR COMPUTER.
stevken. Remove the entry named {9F86F540-51A6-4590-BE4C-7EDC67E2AFAB}_System Diagnostics from the system folder, and reboot. If Windows needs to repopulate the entry and its needed for something being diagnosed it will do so on its own. My concern is something being aloof with elevation of privileges thus the suggestion to run a full scan with Malwarebytes due to this entry being there. Below is a screenshot from my Windows 10 Pro install, the directory is the same on W10 as it is with Windows 7. The final folder named system is empty meaning there isn't anything there the system would require.

I have the same entry in Windows Explorer, up to \System\. It is a legitimate Windows folder. Any entries in that folder, would depend on what you have run on your system.
As SoulAsylum notes this is probably an entry for some diagnostics feature. Have you run any Windows diagnostics?

Hello stevken. In windows explorer, follow the path to that entry. If there is an entry in the last folder (system) delete the entry, NOT the folder itself. Reboot. It is likely that something attempted to create a task outside of what the system normally does, Norton has flagged it as such. As a precaution I would download and run Malwarebytes to ensure your are totally clean. NPE is a seriously aggressive tool and prone to false detections. Lets us know how things went.

Hello stevken. What is the OS you are running? Also, if you can open the scan report and get a screenshot of that to post here that would greatly help. Here is how to post images into the posts.
Cheers
