Found a great article on this subject and wanted to share with all the advanced users here on the forums.

You could always disable your dnscache service (which has various problems) and you wouldn't have to do this. Browsers cache DNS in memory anyway, it's not like it saves much load on the DNS servers.

Four things I do before using my VPN:

  • Change my DNS settings to use a third party DNS provider instead of my ISPs.
  • Disable IPv6.
  • Admin Command Prompt > ipconfig /flushdns.
  • Run CCleaner to clean my browsers cache.

When I connect to my VPN I test at https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ and / or https://ipleak.net/.
