Found this loaded and running in my Windows 10 Pro device a short time ago. Not previously seen. This is what AI states that is it and what its usage is for. Smells like a fish from where I sit. Tracking startup of apps across the OS is feltercarb. Disabled it, uninstalled the software for it and rebooted. There were no warning indications. Just manually looking at my OS as a frequently do as a part of my housekeeping on the computer. Thoughts?
AI Overview
The NvModuleTracker is a legitimate background driver and process monitor associated with NVIDIA graphics cards. Its primary function is to track which parts (modules) of the NVIDIA driver are loaded or unloaded into your computer’s memory while your GPU is running. [1, 2]
What You Need to Know:
- How it works: It acts as a “Process and module monitoring driver” that quietly watches which new applications and processes are started on your operating system.
- Safety: It is completely safe, officially signed by NVIDIA, and not a virus or malware.
- Performance Impact: It uses negligible system resources. Many users report finding it as an “unknown device” or service tied to background GeForce telemetry and NVIDIA Streaming services.
- Device Manager Warning: If it shows up with a yellow warning triangle in your Device Manager, it usually indicates a driver glitch. You can generally fix this by doing a clean installation of the latest NVIDIA drivers or ensuring the service is set to start automatically in your Windows Registry. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Unless you are actively trying to strip out all non-essential NVIDIA telemetry and background software, it is best to leave it alone as it ensures smooth communication between your games and your graphics hardware
