Recent research indicates there is a privacy paradox which encourages us to be more forthcoming when we are less aware of privacy concerns. What that means is, when you visit a corporate website such as Symantec's, where privacy policy links are on every page, you tend to be more careful about the information you share. But when you visit a friend's MySpace page and answer a quiz, you are more free with your info. After all, you aren't really concerned your friend will check your answers for truthfulness.
I'll have to remember this, the next time I'm gossiping, no chatting, with my girlfriends. After all, if I were to say, "don't worry, anything you say will be kept in strict confidence", you are likely no going to give me as much scoop as I'd hoped. Good to know!!
