Problem with NIS 2013 20.2.0.19

I have NIS 2013 20.2.0.19 installed and my OS is Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.

The problem is that every time when I start my computer and open NIS 2013 UI, and click Settings, nothing happens, the settings window won't show up. And if I click Logins under Web Protection in the Advanced View, there is a pop-up guiding me to create an Identity Safe Vault, but what is weird is that I already have my Identity Safe Vault set up, the pop-up should be the one let me fill in the password and open my vault. ( My Identity Safe Vault is local version, I upgraded NIS from 2012 to 2013.)

After I try to restart my computer, the problem will be gone. But the next time I first start my computer, the problem shows. Now I don't know how to fix it permanently. The problem is very annoying, I have to start and then restart my computer to make it work normally.

Let me guess, you can't run any scans also. Because that's the exact problem that I've encountered on windows 8 with this stupid 2013 release. Nothing happens when I click quick scan, full scan or settings. I couldn't count how many times I've contacted support or posted here, no one could help. NIS 2012's latest version is more stable and compatible with Win8. I suggest you to switch back to it. Because no one seems to admit or even care this issue.

I didn't encounter the Scan issues, but I did the History issue, I couldn't open the History panel. Only once.

I went live chat with a Norton Support Representative yesterday and he used remote control to help me fix the issue. It seemed he uninstalled my NIS completely by using norton removal tool and reinstalled the product. And the issue seems fixed now. I am not sure the problem won't come again, I need a few days testing on it.

And you may try to chat with one of them or use the norton removal tool by yourself.

Good luck.

You can't imagine how many times support remotely connected my computer, removed and reinstalled my norton over and over again. Everything seemed working fine after the reinstall so they count as the issue is resolved. But actually it's not. After 3 days, all these issues come back. Also I did this on my 2 windows 8 pcs. Both clean installed and final versions. So there's nothing to do with my computer or windows. It's completely the norton's issue...

Ok, I have to admit, the problems on my computer comes back.

I even want to change my security product, but I still have over 400 days subscription...

I don't know whether the issue happens only on Windows 8.

Sigh, anyway, I decided to give Norton one more chance until the next product update. By then if the problems still bother me, I will have to give up Norton...

From your signature line, I see you have System Mechanic.

For it to be compatible, you need to disable any real time features that can conflict with a security product.  See the following thread...

Why not try the following and go backwards to NIS 2012?  I copied and pasted this solution from another posting.

Download the Norton Removal Tool from here   www.norton.com/nrt

Download a fresh copy of NAV 2012 from here www.norton.com/nav12

Uninstall your Norton product with Windows control panel.

Reboot.

Run the Norton Removal Tool.

Reboot.

Run the NAV installer.

Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Hi DocGlock,

One small correction - as the user has Norton Internet Security the download link would be http://www.norton.com/nis12  :smileywink:.

Dave

Thanks Krusty, I totally missed that.

Hi DocGlock,

Along with the correct link to download NIS 2012 that Dave gave, there are a couple of other tidbits the user should know and do, if deciding to roll back to the previous version.

If using the Identity Safe feature, that would need to be backed up/exported, before proceeding with the rest of the procedure, using the CSV option, as the DAT option is not backwards compatible - (going from 2013 to 2012).

Once back at version 19.9.0.9, then going into settings and disabling Automatic Download of New Version.

Settings > Computer > Updates > Automatic Download of New Version > move slider to Off position > click Apply.

Actually I did encounter the incompatibility between NIS 2012 and System Mechanic. When I clicked Get Support in NIS 2012, it would firstly pop up a windows showing that the SM is incompatible. But after I upgraded both of NIS and SM to the laterst version (NIS to 2013 and SM to 11), NIS 2013 doesn't warn me that anymore, and in Windows 8, SM 11 doesn't have the System Guard function, which may interfere NIS, and I already disabled the Automatic Care function.

Therefore, I don't think that the issue I described in the first post is caused by SM. And according to brkn's post (Message 5 of this thread), he has 2-3 PCs with Windows 8 and NIS 2013, and all of them are suffering the problems, even more serious than I do. And he didn't mention System Mechanic (Of course, I can't assume he doesn't have). But look at the Messages in this community, there are many posts reporting the Scan issue, which brkn is facing. And my problem is similar to theirs, we all encounter some malfunction of the NIS UI menu.
