I think I have a problem with Norton Insight Network.
On Oct 27, I received a message from Insight saying it had removed a file (mstsc.exe) that had been downloaded onto my Desktop (WS.Reputation.1 ). This file had been downloaded from a website called fairysm.com.
On Oct 28, I noticed there was a new icon on my Desktop named mstsc.exe. I checked Norton Insight and it said this file looked okay. I didn’t trust it, so I deleted the file and emptied my recycle bin. It had been downloaded from a different website (which I didn’t record).
On Oct 29, I received another message from Insight telling me it had quarantined a file (mstsc.exe) that had been downloaded onto my Desktop (again, a WS.Reputation.1). This time the file had been downloaded from a website called karolie.com.
Why is Insight handling this threat differently each time it encounters it? First time, deleted the file . Second time, ignored the file. Third time, quarantined the file.
Also, is anyone familiar with this (malware) problem? I know that there is a real mstsc.exe which is part of Windows, but I have also read that there is malware that masquerades as this file. The fact that it keeps downloading every day has me extremely concerned. Anyone know how I can stop this from happening?
Thanks,
