Re. my previous post - please ignore about auto protect only needing to be disabled whilst a profile is launched.  It needs to be disabled premanetnly whilst using a profile.  If I allow auto protect to re-enable itself whilst playing a game and quit out I get the BSOD again.

I am a gamer. I have a Logitech G15 keyboard.  What is happening is that the game profiler is probably being blocked by NIS as a keylogger. Most likey you have Automatic Program Control turned on under the Firewall Advanced tab. With Automatic program control on NIS make the decisions for you since most people are click happy and dont want to be bothered with pop ups. I myself want to see pop ups which will allow me to have full control over what NIS does. Try turning off automatic program control and turning on advanced event monitoring. Now you will be prompt for any alert. All you do is click allow when you get an alert for game profiler then once NIS learns it you will no longer get an alert. You shoud never need to or have to disable your protection to play a game. I have never need to.

Hi.  Thanks for your help.  I tried what you said but the same thing happens.  As soon as I hit 'play' in Pinnacle to launch a profile I get a BSOD with the same message I posted earlier.  The only way it works is by disabling auto-protect.  I never had a single problem with Pinnacle with previous internet security packages I used inc. NOD32, Kaspersky, AVG or even NIS2008.  I'm still waiting for a reply from the Pinnacle for a tester version to try and narrow down what's causing the BSOD.  Also, someone else on their forums is using NIS2009 and has the exact same problem whilst auto protect is enabled.

Would be nice to find a solution so fingers crossed.

Maybe a employee can have a look and send it to the devs…

Did you get an alert at all with NIS?

You also might want to turn off scanning for keyloggers.

Hi.  No alert at all with NIS even with automatic program control turned off.  Just a BSOD.  Regarding turning off scanning for keyloggers, I haven't done this but wouldn't an alert have been generated by NIS if that is what was detected?  If I don't disable auto protect, there is a slight pause for a few seconds when I launch a profile before the BSOD.  If auto protect is disabled, the profile launches instantly without hesitation.

Would be interested to see if the devs could try the product and see if they get a BSOD too.

The problem is NIS needs to learn Your program. If you turned off automatic program control and turned on advanced event monitoring NIS should prompt you fir jusr about every application till it learns it. I had automatic program control on and BF2 locked up on me. So then after doing what I suggested I now got alerts for BF2 which I allowed and then BF2 ran just fine.

As previously mentioned, I did turn off automatic program control and turned on advanced event monitoring but I still get the BSOD.  In this configuration, after I opened Pinnacle I first checked for any any updates from within Pinnacle itself and I got a popup from Norton saying "Pinnacle is trying to access the Internet" which showed me that Norton altert popups were working.

But as soon as I launched a profile there were no popups - it would go straight to the BSOD.  Other than wanting to get this fixed for myself, I am aware that other users of Pinnacle maybe using NIS2009 as well who won't realise why they are getting BSODs too.

Not sure if anyone else here and/or devs want to try out Pinnacle themselves and see if you get a BSOD as well.

ade0410,

Can you provide some of the information that is available when you get the BSOD? Are you prompted to submit these to Microsoft and have you submitted them? A driver name and bucket ID would be helpful to better isolate this problem.

Hi.  Thanks for your interest in this problem.  On every occasion where I got the BSOD I looked at and analyzed the minidump created.  This contained the following information:-

Each time I booted my PC following the BSOD, I got the message asking me to check for a solution but nothing ever came back.

The developer at Pinnacle asked for a link to this thread so he can check/follow the progress of this.  As mentioned before, another Pinnacle user using NIS2009 also gets the BSOD if auto protect is enabled whilst using a profile in Pinnacle (please note that I can run Pinnacle fine with auto protect enabled, it's just when a profile is launched/active with it enabled that I get the BSOD).

Hope this information is useful and please let me know if I can be of further help.

Many thanks.

Have you bothered to check there support site. I found a crashing thread and those people are not using NIS 2009.

The crashing they refer to was relating to the message of ‘pinnacle has encountered a problem and needs to close’.  That was fixed with the most recent versions and even before that I never had Pinnacle crash on me BSOD or otherwise.  I’m still awaiting a tester version to see if they can see anything in Pinnacle’s log files when the BSOD happens.  I’m just not sure whether it’s Pinnacle or NIS2009 or a combination of both that is causing the problem.  All I know is that if I disable auto protect Pinnacle runs fine and I get no BSODs.

Well I am a hardcore pc gamer. I use my Logitech MX1000 laser mouse and my Logitech G15 gaming keyboard when I am pc gaming. I see no reason to use a controller for pc games when a mouse and keyboard is far superior. When I want to use a controller I go over and use my XBOX 360. I know this doesn’t help you but when Pinnacle came out awhile ago I tried it for WOW and wasn’t impressed. Cannot do all your macros on a controller.

ade0410, thanks for posting the information. From what you’ve supplied, it looks like an issue that Pinnacle is going to have to research. That doesn’t mean that the problem is strictly theirs but they’re in the best position to understand what is immediately happening. Hopefully, if they find some problem incorrectly caused by the Norton software, they’ll contact us so that we can work out the details.

Ok.  I’ll go back to them and make them aware again.  Thanks.

I appreciate what you're saying - I suppose for me I've always used a gamepad since the first PlayStation and it's something I'm just more comfortable with than a mouse and keyboard.  There are actually a lot of advanced functions that can be performed with Pinnacle and the latest version is certainly improved alot.
