Problems installing Norton 360 using Windows 7 on an Acer desktop

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to install 360 v3 on an Acer desktop (M5802).  I had previously been running NIS2009, and after running setup in the 360 CD, it detected and uninstalled NIS2009. After booting up  all I saw was a black screen and the mouse cursor.  After several attempts of re-booting in safe mode, doing a startup repair, system restore, etc I finally was able to get the PC back up, however I still can’t install 360.  I see the intro menu and after clicking Install, the PC just sits there and does nothing.  I have been trying to get this done for about a week.  I’m thinking there might some some program unique to Acer that is causinig a conflict as I was able to install 360 on a Toshiba laptop without incident.  Please help!

Been there, done that.  Have already uninstalled using the removal tool (about 5 times!).  Is the downloaded version of 360 different from what I have on the CD?  Either way, I’ve tried installing using both methods.

Hi Pakrbakr,

Yes, the download version of Norton 360 is different from the CD version; the download versions available at the links Yogesh has indicated contain the latest build, version 3,5, which is fully compatible with Windows 7. Your CD very probably contains version 3 - which is not compatible with Windows 7. Please download the correct edition of your Norton 360 program from the appropriate download link and save it to your computer and install it.

I will try agian, but I know I did before using the downloaded file.  Thanks for the advice.

And try installing the Norton product in Safe mode and see what happens. Do you have any other security products installed in your computer?

Vineeth--

I didn’t think you could install it from Safe mode?

Hi Pakr

When you use the Norton removal tool, please make sure it is the latest one. There may be an additional problem here because the NRT leaves behind the file that has the product key in it. In this case, it has most likely left the NIS key behind. That file might be interfering with the download and install of N360 version 3.5. Please make sure that the correct key is going to be entered into N360, that is the key for N360.

I was able to install the product.  Seems to be working fine.  Thanks.
