Problems with Norton IPS and Internet Explorer 8

So I reinstalled Windows XP SP3 on an older computer that belongs to a friend, updated it, and then installed Norton Antivirus on it. I then start noticing that IPS is causing iexplore.exe to hang. Basically, as long as I have the IPS add-on enabled, it does this. The second I disable it, Internet Explorer 8 works beautifully. I’ve done several scans on the computer, both with Norton, Malwarebytes, and HijackThis. If you’d like, I can post a log of the latter, but some other folks I asked said nothing was wrong. I guess it won’t hurt to double check. In any case, what else can I do to stop this and be able to re-enable Norton IPS for IE8? Thanks in advance.
