Process identification: hid.exe

Hello,

Not sure if this is really the right place but here goes.

After trying to identify a process I am unfamiliar with I did the obligatory google search (not necessarily a good idea...).

The process in question/install path is the following:

C:\Program Files (x86)\HP Laser Gaming Mouse with VoodooDNA\hid.exe

Now this mouse is in use on the computer in question so it would seem okay. However from various sites I have only been able to find out the following:

1) It may actually be a legitimate process but for what no one actually says. (rather rare) One stated it should be in system 32, and there is a hid.dll in system32, but the process in task manager leads to the above mentioned path.

2) It is a process installed/imitated by a trojan ( http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2003-051918-1128-99&tabid=2 )  (the by far most common answer).

The annoying thing is that most posts/sites state it is a virus/related to a virus without a doubt, whilst those that don't, do not bother to say where the file should be and what it is actually for. It could just be the mouse driver in which case this is all a huge overreaction, but it could be something else as I must confess I've never actually bothered to look in the mouse folder before.

Norton (2011 NIS) did a full system scan on wednesday and just found tracking cookies for what it's worth.

Any help/answers would be appreciated.
