I recently reloaded PC with Win XP, machine, Procom Plus and STUIII phone worked before the reload.

The PC is connected to the STUIII phone via a rs 232 cable one end of the cable has a USB adapter to the PC

This application and STUIII phone are used to transfer data files.

The system is not working because the phone fails to go into a secure state when attempting to transfer data the Procom Plus shows no errors I suspect the STUIII phone.

The windows device manager is indicating PCI device not working properly could this be an issue?

There are no PCI cards in the system.

So your problems started after reloading windows XP...,

Q1: was it an update to an existing install or a

Q2: clean install? Clean install is usually not going to cause you a new problem unless a failure while installing drivers, etc. But updates to existing windows installtion can be problematic.

Q3: Did you update and move any cards around or plus a new card in?

// you might try the following, but caution, if you are not sure of these steps, you might want to create a windows restoral point to come back to. Do not delete any device manager object that is functioning properly.

1) in the device manager delete the PCI device with the error, and then reboot, do you get prompted for a driver? Of all your PCI cards is one not working?

2) Another idea is maybe a old driver is messing you up. you gets rid of these by uninstalling them in the device manager. But how do you see them? You have to view=show hidden devices. Then try uninstalling these old PCI devices (but make sure they are not in use). If this doesn't show anything,  close the device manager, then you might try going to a dos cmd prompt (start->run and type cmd.exe) , then at the dos shell prompt type :

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

then go to the device manager again by entering the following command in dos shell
devmgmt.msc

and then set view=show hidden devices, now try and uninstalling any old device relating to PCI

3) another idea is to grep or search on line for exact text syntax to your issue and see what other people have done to fix their similar issue, I have resolved so many issues this way. So if you have a particular error message, or messages, start searching for issues close to this, and then after reading each persons resolution, and you feel it is ok to try, then go ahead a try it. I would try and avoid registry changes, but if you must, do a register save before you change anything.

Let me know what your answers are to the questions, and hope something goes right and you find the silver bullet for this issue. Remember always proceed with knowing caution about what you are doing, maybe even a log so you can back track if you must.

Thanks for your response

Q1: was it an update to an existing install or aA1: The machine was loaded with a clean company install Q3: Did you update and move any cards around or plus a new card in?A3: No new cards were installed in machine that’s why it was strange to see a request for the “USB-Serial Controllers” and “PCI Device” install message I was able to find the driver for the “USB-Serial Controllers” // you might try the following, but caution, if you are not sure of these steps, you might want to create a windows restoral point to come back to. Do not delete any device manager object that is functioning properly.1) in the device manager delete the PCI device with the error, and then reboot, do you get prompted for a driver? Of all your PCI cards is one not working? I have tried deleting the device and rebooting and the install message appears, there are no PCI cards in the machine

I will proceed with your suggestion that I might have a bad PCI driver and get back to you.

I had high hopes for the old driver fix but alas the problem still exists after removing the hidden drivers the machine was restarted and the message wanting to install the PCI device appeared again.

I have several computers that use this program, one of my terminals will not boot up this program, I have went into all the settings pages I can find and it all seems to match my other terminals, I desperately need help, its my boss’s terminal that won’t boot up and he is going nuts

You might try re-installing the software, and run update live, or whatever the program is that does the updating. I have procom plus 4.8 running for 8 years, never have any issues. How are you using it? As a telnet client, on an rs232 port on the computer. Make sure if using it on a rs232 device that the windows device manager does not have any issue with this hardware device, make sure you are using rs232 ports that are in the device manager. Can you use hyper terminal and it works? (this proves out the rs232 port is working at the baud rate, parity and number of bits you have set). Can you hook up another PC using procom or htper term, this will test that the cabling and the rs232 device are working. (However if you passed the hyperterm test I mentioned eariler, then you have already proven the hardware and cable to be ok.)

Maybe you got this resolved already I hope. procom is really special with aspect scripting, this is what our company still uses it for. Most people use some sort of ssh2 capabile client now adays, like putty, or such. But for dedicated rs232 connections, procom is great. Some of our software developers use TermaTerm, and freeware downloaded program, it is ok, I still like procom the best, because of ease of use and the as[ect scripting ability.
