I hate to say it, but Procomm Plus hasn't been updated in years. If you're trying to install version 4.x it is only compatible with Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0. Have you been able to install to XP previously?
Yes, I have ProComm 4.8 running with no problems on Windows XP. It was installed on SP1 with no problems, this is the first time I've tried to install it on SP2 or SP3. ProComm's telnet client is great I really want to keep using it.
The only thing I could think of would be to install it with SP1 present and then upgrade to SP2 or SP3.
It’s hard to do that when most of the new machines we buy now are at SP2 from the factory…
Unfortunately I can't promise that we'll be able to get Procomm to install on XP SP2/SP3 as development for Procomm was halted a long time ago and was never certified on Windows Me, 2000 profession, XP, etc.
Since a file cannot be copied over it's possible that it's due to permissions on the destination folder. If you have an AV installed you could put that file in as an exception. The other option would be to try to install in safe mode. You can base the steps off of the following document:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/procomm.nsf/docid/2000022112370526
Thanks, I thought about installing in safe mode but know I woukld not have access to the CD drive in safe mode. Didn’t think about copying the CD to the hard drive… I’ll give it a try…

PMJI but did you try the Compatibility Wizard in XP: check Help on "compataibility mode" and it should take you to:
Getting older programs to run on Windows XP
It works wonderfully in VISTA <g> But I don't think I've had to use it in XP or W2K.
Also although it's a long time since I had to go to Safe Mode in XP isn't one of the options to be able to access optical drives? HELP only refers to "mass storage" ...
Thanks, These are also very good suggestion, I will post my results when I get a chance to try them.
Good luck! Look forward to hearing the results.
I vaguely remember Procomm from my first timid steps into on-line groups, must have been back in 1984 (not George Orwell's) using a Tandy Model 2000!
How much easier everything ... welll nearly everything ... is these days!
Copying the CD to the hard drive and installing in Safe Mode was the trick, at least for this machine. I have one other to do yet but I see no reason it should not work there as well. I want to thank you guy for your help. My other alternative was to go to another Telnet program or use the Windows Telnet program and loose all the features and benefits of ProComm.... Thanks again.....
