If you mean the KEY for the NIS 2009 then look in your My Documents for a folder Symantec and a file with a name like:
Norton Internet Security_Key.txt
If you mean for the 2010 that you just bought then as PapauZ suggests ..... but look for that folder too and see if the 2010 key is there also -- just double click on it to open it since it is a notepad file of just text.
Please print this page and keep it in a safe place. You will need this key in the event that you need to reinstall Norton Internet Security.
Product key: A ... Z
To print this page, press Ctrl-P.
For future reference, you can find this product key in E:\Users\<username>\Documents\Symantec\Norton Internet Security_Key.txt
You have not already installed and activated the 2010 have you but now can't find the envelope with the KEY? I'm not clear from waht you write.
Well, it's actually the key for NIS 2010, but I would assume it's in the same spot.
Yes, I was having trouble finding the envelope, but I have now found it. I *thought* that in the past I've gotten it from the NOrton online, but the 2010 version isn't on the list. I thought once I'd installed, it would have registered with Norton Online.
It's a three license copy and I needed to find it for the other computers.
So, is there a way to register the copy with Norton?
I am a little confused. DId you have any days remaining in your old subscription? Did you install NIS 2010 over the top of 2009 or did you remove NIS 2009 first or what?
If you bought NIS 2010 in a store and already installed/activated it, you would have lost any days remaining on your old subscription so it is always best to wait until the last 1-2 days before your current subscription expires before you enter the new product key.
Did you click on Express Renewal? To register a new product key you click on Express Renewal and then enter the new product key in the box provided in the next window. Then click on the right arrow to activate it. This should link to your Norton online account and register it.
What version of NIS 2010 do you have now? Please provide the exact version from Help & Support > About.
Just so you know, the product key is independant of the actual software because you are paying for a subscription and not the software itself. What this basically means is that you do not have to reinstall the new NIS you bought, you would only need to enter the new product key through Express Renewal.
When you need to upgrade we can provide direct links to the newest version which you can use to upgrade your program for free provided your subscription is current at the time.
Please make sure you run Live Update repeatedly (rebooting as requested) until it reports no more updates are found.
I tried express renewal, but it's always cheaper to buy a new product than renew. I paid $19 for a 3 copy version of the product.
I have 17.7.0.12 version.
I didn't know about just entering the product key through express renewal, but since I have 2010 version and I used to have 2009, it probably makes sense to upgrade right? Oh, but I see what you're saying, I could have just downloaded it.
So, a question about that. Had I bought a NIS 2009, which may have been cheaper, could I have upgraded to 2010 through the "about" link?
I ran Live Update immediately, but I"m not sure my daughter did. I'll have to check and make sure she's up-to-date.
Really great info. Thank you. So, I guess the only question I have left is why isn't my product showing up on my "my norton" page?
Clicking on express renewal will not be charged again. There are two ways Express Renewal is used.
1. Clicking on Express Renewal and then entering your new product key in the box provided. Then click on the right arrow to the right of the box. This method will NOT be charged and is how you should register your new product key.
2. Clicking on Express Renewal then Express renewal again. This one IS charged.
You need to use method #1.
Good, you do have the latest version so please make sure on the second computer as well. And yes as far as updating to a new version, you can do so from Help & Support > Check for new version or you can post back on the forum and there are lots of folks here who can supply the links to the latest programs as well as guidance if needed.
You could check with Customer Service but I am not sure if they can consolidate the product key registration into the other account. But if this is what you want then you could check with them and see if they can help out with this.
