Product Maintenance--Failed to complete

NIS 19.5--Windows 7x64

After reading the thread on Identiy (sic) Safe Maintenance earlier, I noticed two of the greyed-out tasks failed to complete.  Identity Safe has never been utilized, so I can understand how it might fail to complete.  When Product Maintenance is seen to have failed to complete in the two times I looked at the Norton tasks, then and today, should I be concerned as to what it signifies?

Hi neigh-ho-ma

I have found the same with the new additions to the NIS UI Tasks, sometimes

they might not run for a day or 2 and show that they had failed to complete

as well.

But they complete eventually and it seems to be a bit random as to when the

greyed out tasks actually run and complete as well, but they do seem to be

getting a bit more regular with completion now i might mention.

Identity Safe Maintenance took some 3-4 days to run and complete the first time

after it was added with the 19.5 update it just showed as failed but came good .

And with the Product Maintanance task i have seen the same sort of issue as well where

it has not run or shows as failed but it too came good and completed as well.

Probably best to run LiveUpdates manuall from time to time and allow the computer

to have some quite time to run in idle and just monitor the Tasks to see what has run

and what has completed. :-)

Cheers:smileywink:

PS    How many days has it been since you did the NIS 19.5 product update.?

Hello, smithy.

NIS2012 updated to 19.5 a day before FF10 emerged, if I recalled correctly.  There was a flurry of program activity (downloads and reboots) around that time.  I update manually and disconnect after the fact.  And later in the day, after the second observation, the Product Maintenance did show complete.

Follow-up question: if failed updates generate error codes, why doesn't the failed to complete in Product Maintenance generate error codes?  By the by, monitoring the Norton Tasks panel shouldn't be my raison d'etre.
