TOTALLY DISGUSTED !!!
Comcast ( in addition to Verison and others) have notified its customers that they need to change their incoming and outgoing e-mail port setting to 465 and 995 because these ISPs no longer support the use of Port 25. I just recently became aware of this change that Comcast made in August 2012.
When I tried to manually configure my NORTON 360 to the Comcast suggested port settings by adding them as protected ports, the Norton 360 would not allow me to do that ( "This port is used by programs other than the supported e-mail programs. It cannot be added to the list of protected e-mail ports").
HMMMMM- COULD THIS BE THE REASON THE AMOUNT OF SPAM I GET HAS INCREASED??? I don't understand why a product that is advertising itself as the top product against all kinds of nasty threats from malware and viruses DOES NOT allow the flexibility to TRULY configure your port settings, especially since 25 and 110 are the outdated default settings.
FURTHERMORE I WAS EVEN MORE SURPRISED, When I went into the forum for help :), and saw that a product improvement was suggested by those in the Norton Community, back in 2010 ( see link below) and NORTON STILL HAS NOT made this product improvement. MOST e-mail programs NO LONGER SUPPORT THE USE OF PORT 25, yet NORTON does not allow you to add majISP's suggested port changes, to the protected port list:
C'mon now I ask you.....in 3 years Norton has not been able to make this product improvement ??? I have always used Norton, but I guess it's time to go to McAFEE or KASPERSKY.
I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR A RESPONSE FROM A BONA FIDE NORTON TECHIE OR EXECUTIVE WHY THIS HASN'T HAPPENED YET? ( .....in plain language please...I am a newbie, but a disgusted one!)
