Protected e-mail ports

Hello

Just check my settings and it says the protected ports are POP3 110 and SMTP 25. My port settings in Outlook are POP3 995 and SMTP 465.

I tried to add these to the list of protected ports but it says that other programms are using them. Does this mean that my e-mail is not in fact protected?

What can I do. I have tried changing my Outlook account settings to 110 and 25 and it won't connect, so that doesn't help.

Thanks

Mark

Hi marklydarkly,

Norton Email Protection and AntiSpam only support POP3 110 and SMTP 25.  Messages on secure ports cannot be scanned for viruses or spam because the content is encrypted.  Ports 995 and 465 cannot be added to the Protected Ports list, not because they are in use, but because Norton does not support them.

You do not need to be concerned about malware because you are protected even without email scanning.  Auto-Protect continues to scan all attachments on access, so it will catch anything that email scanning would have detected.  Email scanning is largely a vestigial feature that adds only a bit of redundancy to your protection.  It can be eliminated, and there will be absolutely no lessening of your overall security.

Thank you for your helpful reply.
