Purchasing Norton Internet Security 2011 but currently have 2008 or 09 version installed

Hi,

I currently have Norton Internet Security installed on one of my Vista pc's and in about a month or so the subscription will expire again. (this will be my third year of renewal)

What I wanted to know is ... can I buy Norton Internet Secuirty 2011 and just use the key off the box to enter it into the renewal section of my already installed program?

The reason I ask is that its cheaper for me to buy a whole new boxed program than it is to simply renew?

SO basically what I'm saying is I don't want to have to uninstall my current version ... if I buy the 2011 version can I enter the key and will this be accepted for a years subscription?

I just don't get it why going through the "renewal" in the program that it is much more expensive and yet there is no cost to Symantec by way of a download, a disc, postage, packaging etc etc ...seems to me that regular customers who hit the renewal to pay for another year are taken advantage of and given no incentive to stick with them.

Anyway .. an answer to my query would be greatly appreciated :smileyindifferent:

Hey thanks for the prompt reply ! ...

Can I take it therefore that If I buy a new Norton 360 (whatever version is about lately) that I can do the same and use the key off the box?

I would be buying a version that gives cover for 3 computers as that's what I currently have installed on two vista pc's and an XP pc ...... again, same circumstances, ready for renewal again soon and the price is much higher than going out and buying a newly boxed and more recent version. ?? ..I just don't get the logic behind it accept for being taken for a ride !!!

I don't want to have to uninstall ..so can I just enter the key from the box and it WILL be ACCEPTED  and all 3 computers will have a valid subscription for another year???

Can I push for one more query ??

If I bought a norton product that was different to my installed norton product could I stull use the key from that too?

Example; installed is norton 360 on 3 computers and needs renewal in 46 days ... I buy Norton Internet Security 3 computer licence ... can I just use the key off the box ??

Thanks in advance for all help,

:-)

Hi Liverbird43

I can't answer the question on pricing as that is Symantec marketing issue.

If you want to stick with your current version then you can do what you suggest and purchase a current version and use the key off that box to extend your current subscription.

I would encourage you to update to NIS2011 if that is the box set you are going to purchase as long as your PC meets the minimum requirements for NIS2011.

You cannot use the key from Norton 360 to activate or extend the subscription of NIS or vice versa. They are different products with different key types. You can however use a key from the latest Norton 360 for your current version of Norton 360.

You'll find N360 on sale frequently too and especially around now since the new V5 ought to be out soon -- and you get to update to it for free even with an earlier KEY.

Thanks so much for clear precise answers .... exactly what I wanted to know ..thanks both of you :smileyhappy:

You're very welcome -- my mother was born in Sefton Park, when it was respectable <g> And my eldest grandson was born near there when his father was with OCL in the Liver Building .....

I see one of the supply companies here in the USA has N360 3PC this week for $9.99 for the Standard version or $19.99 for the Premier version so I'd expect you to find similar prices with the upgrade near.
