"Purge" in NIS 2011

Looking through NIS 2011 I notice in Network Settings on Exclusion List there is an option to "Purge" instead of "configure".   If you click on "Purge" however a box comes up saying "Do you wish to purge the saved exclusion list" "Yes" or "No". I've no idea what happens next. Do I see the said saved Exclusion List first if I click "Yes" or does it just get wiped out.  I don't even know what's on the Exclusion list.  There is separate item called Exclusion Signatures which you can "configure" and see first.  Norton Help doesn't assist at all.  Can anyone tell me please?

HI imbart,

In the Network Security Map you can edit the trust level of individual devices in your network.  If you assign the status of "Full Trust" you are given the option to exclude the device from the Intrusion Prevention Scan, which scans all network traffic for attacks.  Allowing a trusted device to access your PC without this scan will speed up your network communications.  If you discover that something malicious has gotten into your network you can use the purge feature to make sure all devices connecting to your computer get scanned.

The Norton Help Center has this to say about it:

Lets you purge the exclusion list and remove all the devices.

If you are sure that a device on your network is safe, you can change the trust level of the device to Full Trust. You can exclude these trusted devices from Intrusion Prevention scan. The Full Trust devices that are excluded from Intrusion Prevention scan are added to Intrusion Prevention exclusion list. If you find that any of the devices that you excluded from Intrusion Prevention scan is infected, you can click Purge and remove all the devices from the exclusion list.

Thank you SendOfJive.

You're welcome.  If you check the Help index for Intrusion Prevention scan you'll find a couple of articles with much more information on the exclusion list and purging devices.
