Putting Norton Internet Security 2012 on my daughters laptop

I have Norton Internet Security 2012 on my computer and I bought my daughter a computer for Christmas this year. She immediately took the NIS 2012 free trial on her new laptop and now that she is getting closer to the date that the Subscription status will run out and I want to add her on my subscription which has 256 days left on it. How do I change her subscription? Will I have to reinstall her NIS or just renew and place my subscription key in her program?

Welcome,

You've got almost all of it correect. I will assume that you purchased your subscription for just a single computer [yours]. The only way to get a fulll subscription for hers is to buy another one. These will be independent and the start/finish dates will be based on when they were installed and activated.

Now, if you can find NIS on sale from a reliable vendor you can purchase that copy and use that key to extend your daughter's subscription. I suggest this because the next uptick from Norton is a three computer license. The other reason is that if her license gets tied to yours she will only get 256 days of use from the subscription.

Hope this helps

Pastor Wes,

If you don't know whether or not you have a 3 PC licence for your NIS you can look in the MyNortonAccount you created to activate your installation and that will tell you how many activations you have left -- if none then you got a 1 PC version; if 2 then you got a 2PC version (assuming you have not installed it anywhere else.

Assuming you have a 3 PC licence, and when you are ready to use an activation on hers (Does she live at home or nearby?) you will not have to do any uninstalling / reinstalling since you both have NIS 2012. All you have to do is take the KEY from the entry for your installation on your PC (open the MyNortonAccount as above but open it on her computer by clicking on Accoount on the top bar of the main screen of NIS 2012 and logging in using your own email address and password. Click on the entry for your instalation and it will reveal the PRODUCT KEY.

Hold down the left key of your mouse and wipe it across the code letters of just the KEY itself and then press the CTRL and C keys to Copy the Key into the cliplboard.

Open up the main screen of her trial installation of NIS and alongside the Subscription Status it should say Subscribe or Renew or something like that and open up a screen with a box labled Use Existing Key -- click inside that and press CTRL and V to Paste the KEY into the box ...

Follow the onscreen instructions and you should end up activated with the same number of days as are left on your machine at that time.

Hiope that is clear and it works .......

Once it is activated run LiveUpdate a couple of times with a restart inbetween until it says you are fully uptodate ...
