In C:\users\all users\Norton\some key\nav_someversion\Qbackup\many different keys: I have several gigabytes of files with QBI and QBD extensions. In looking through the forums, it seems most likely that these are quarantine backups. I am certain that I do not need to restore anything from any quarantine backups. Is it safe to simply delete all of these files? Even worse than taking up disk space, for some reason these files refuse to be marked with the archive bit so my incremental backups back multiple gigabytes of them up every time the backups run. If this means there is some protection mechanism that will also block me from deleting the files, please explain how to circumvent it. I have tried looking at the Quarantine listing in NAV, but it just sits there without loading any quarantine files. I haven’t had the patience to let it run for the hours it apparently needs to load all of these quarantine backup files. I have been using NAV for many years, so the quarantine backup files could be from multiple previous versions of NAV.
Hi hspindel,
Welcome to the Norton Community.
What version of NAV do you have? You can find this from Help > About. Also what OS and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit? Based on the path you referenced it sounds like you have either Vista or Windows 7 but please confirm exact version.
If you are sure you don't want anything in the Qbackup folder then yes you can safely remove those files. First, double check in History > Quarantine from your NAV window. Is there anything shown in Quarantine history? If so you can remove all of them from there.
As you indicated these may be left over from prior versions of NAV which did not get cleaned up at some point. This directory is protected by NAV but you should be able to remove entries in this directory.
First, turn OFF Norton Tamper Protection in Misc. Settings. Then try to remove all of the files and sub-directories in the Qbackup folder. However, please note do not remove the Qbackup directory itself.
If the system does not let you remove the files/directories in Qbackup, then try booting into SAFE mode while still leaving Tamper Protection OFF and then try to remove them again.
Once you are done removing this, please make sure and turn Tamper Protection back ON.
Hope this helps and please let us know how it goes.
Best wishes.
Allen
Thank you for the response. NAV 17.8.0.5, Vista 32 bit. I was able to remove all the files. Thanks for the tip about turning off tamper protection.
