It is a form of malware. Read this link for more information about it & how to fully remove it: http://spywarefiles.prevx.com/RRBEED26699801/QTTSK.EXE.html
hmmm.... are we discussing qttsk.exe or qttask.exe?
seems one of them is malware and one of them is something apple installs as part of quicktime.
Sorry about that, it is qttask.exe Thanks for asking
yea i pretty much knew what you said, but the second person was reffering to something else, i was just trying to point out that it wasn't the same thing. qttask.exe usally belongs to Apple's quicktime and is ok, it is what puts the quicktime icon in the area down by the clock i think. What made you suspecious of it?
The only reason I questioned it was because Norton was saying that it was a low risk and since I’m new was not sure what it did, especially since it kept making so many changes to my startup settings. Guess I won’t worry about it now. Thanks.

Some would say that that is a sure sign it is a genuine Apple Quicktime module! <g>
But you are very right to ask -- the only silly questions are the ones you don't ask!
If it is from Apple, QTTask will be located in C > Program Files > QuickTime. As 4 runner said, it is a process that places a QuickTime Icon in the system tray. If it is located elsewhere, then it may be malware. I have always kept it disabled, so I am not familiar with why it would be making changes to your startup settings.
I like to minimize the number of unnecessary running processes and there is a simple procedure for this item. If you are comfortable making a minor modification here it is:
Go to Start > run > msconfig and uncheck qttask from the startup list and perform a restart. Then go to C > Program Files > QuickTime and locate QTTask. Right click on QTTask and rename it QTTaskold and the process will no longer run, nor will it place a QT icon in your system tray every time you run QuickTime Player. It has absolutely no effect on using the QT Player.
Of course, if you are not comfortable making that modification, the genuine QTTask does not use much memory and can be left alone.
Best Wishes,
PhilOr you can run quicktime, go to the options and on the last tab uncheck (or check I don't remember) the load qt on startup. Then close out and it won't run without you starting it.
