Qualys Browser Check

Just wondering if anybody knows what this product does, if it is worth looking at and does it interfere with norton? I am using chrome as my browser.

Hi stuart crandell:

Are you referring to the Qualys BrowserCheck plugin at https://browsercheck.qualys.com/? I've never installed this plugin but I frequently advise users to use their Qualys SSL Client Test to analyse their browser security (see David1776's thread Secure Connection Failed for one example in this forum).  The company has a good reputation, although I can't speak personally to the usefulness of this particular plugin.  There is a BrowserCheck FAQ at https://community.qualys.com/docs/DOC-1542 that might be helpful - see the section What does the BrowserCheck Plug-in do? for a quick overview.

PC Magazine has a review posted <here> that lists some of the pros and cons of BrowserCheck.  That review is a few years out-of-date but has some interesting comments about BrowserCheck vs the free Secunia Personal Software Inspector v3 (now owned by Flexera - I have PSI installed on my own machine and run the occasionally on-demand scan to check for security updates for all my installed software).

You might want to try Qualys' online BrowserCheck scanner at https://browsercheck.qualys.com/?scan_type=js as a quick test.   I ran that online scanner today and all it did was tell me that my Firefox v50.1.0 was up-to-date (I don't have Adobe Flash or the Java JRE installed), but the web page does note that the plugin is capable of "comprehensive and automated scans".
