I was writing a large document in word, i saved the document to my harddrive when i went to access it again a message told me that it had been blocked (i assume quarantined) by an anti-virus program (Norton Internet security). My version was out of date so i uninstalled it (but kept my quarantined files) and installed NIS 2009 now it says i have no quarantined files. Need this document, some help please?
Hi,
01. What do you mean by "out of date"?
02. Did you back-up your Files previous to this?
03. What was it Detected as?
04. Have a look in the Unresolved Security Risks in the Security History; anything there?
How did you uninstall NIS, through add/remove or did you run the Norton Removal Tool?
1. The 12month limit had run out and was unable to get the latest virus definitions
2. yes on a usb drive but i guess that was infected becuase the file is missing from that too.
3. It didn't tell me but i scanned the usb drive on another computer and it there were a couple of viruses i know one was romance virus or something
4. there is nothing in the history because this happened yesterday and i've installed a new version of Nortons today.
I uninstalled Norton through add remove programs, it asked me if i wanted to delete my quarantined files and said no. now i can't even find a quarantine folder.
The document was for school reports and took me forever to do, really don't want to do it again.
Is it worth possibly trying a system roll back?
Did you do a search for qbackup folder with show hidden files checked? If that fails you could try system restore but turn off self protection in NIS first. If you manage to get your document back it sounds like you should do some scans for malware as well.
When you get a chance download, install, update, and run a full scan with Malwarebytes Antimalware free version. Link

Hi, again,
01. That's because your Subscription Expired; now the whole Norton Poduct, from about Norton 2008 Products, will not work if your Subscription Expires.
02. Please confirm what Norton Product you bought, and how many Days are on your Subscription.
Please could you also Run a HiJackThis Log for us, so we can see what's Running on your computer:
Download Hijackthis, http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis; the third .exe (Executable) Version in the List, run it, Creating a Log. If using Vista, Right-Click and "Run as Administrator". Open that Log and Copy & Paste it here, or use the "Add Attachments" button, just below the "Post" button, to Upload the Log.
Yeah, you could try and system Rollback; if you do, could your re-do the HiJackThis Log on the Rolled-back system.
It looks like you'll need to re-do the whole Document you were working on, am afraid; should have kept that Subscription Vaild...
Please keep us informed with what you decide to do; thank-you for your co-operation.
