Question about detected security risk

Hi

Possibly someone could assist with the following situation.

I bought what appeared to be legit software from a vendor’s website, after I really enjoyed the quality of the trial software.

The following day I received a executable for the permanent license and when I attempted to run this

it was indicated as a high security risk in some area’s and was automatically deleted

I’ m concerned to what I should do now, as it could be spyware also meaning I have basically wasted my money.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

I am a bit puzzled as to why you have chosen my post as the solution, since I have only asked preliminary questions and have not proposed any solutions. If you clicked the green solution button by mistake, please do the following to mark the thread unsolved:

Go to my post, click on "Options" and then on "Unmark as Accepted Solution".

If your problem is not yet solved but you have marked the thread as solved, then less people will read it and you will therefore end up getting less support.

Hi

I’m using Norton Internet security 2009 on Windows XP home edition.

I have also mistakenly clicked on 'Solved ’ for this question which isn’t the case really.

I’m almost sure this software must be genuine as it seams so reputable and that the extra licensing executable they send one
apart from the actual application download is probably just reporting on license information, however the many high security risks
reported by Norton’s did concern me.
How can one be totally sure it doesn’t contain spyware as possibly this exe was tampered with,
without the vendors knowledge.

Kind Regards
Nick

HI Nick,

If you mistakenly clicked on the green solution button, then you will find instructions in my previous post telling you how to remove the solution marker :-)

If you think that the software you downloaded and purchased is a false positive, then you can submit it to Symantec over here:

https://submit.symantec.com/dispute/false_positive/

Also, since you have got NIS 2009, you can update for free to NIS 2010 via the Norton Update Center over here:

http://updatecenter.norton.com/

Hi Yaso

I need to be sure it isn't a false positive as I'm not really, also could Symantec possibly check it out.

I do have the licensing exe email that I could send them

Also many thanks for the additional information

Regards

NIck

HI Nick,

If you suspect that the software is actually infected and not a false positive, then you can use this form over here:

https://submit.symantec.com/websubmit/retail.cgi

Thanks Yaso, That is quite helpfull

Glad to help

You can also submit the file to Virus Total for a “quick scan” by major security software vendors.

Or you can try Threat Expert over here for a faster response:

Here's a post by a Symantec employee on Threat Expert (which belongs to Symantec):
