Questions about the "fix now"

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I know that you get a million of these questions(heh, sorry) but I'm wondering how long does the "fix now" takes to.. well, fix?

If it doesn't, what shall I do to make it "fix" it?

Also, I'm wondering on how do you know if you got a false positive?

Thank you in advance:)

I'm sorry for being vague. I don't know much about this..

I'm sorry for being vague. I don't know much about this..

Yes, I did and I just have the regular Norton from a box. Haha

Sorry.. My knowlege of computers is limited..

Wait, nevermind. I know what an OS is. I have Windows 8.

I had a dumb moment.

Hi,

What was mentionned in that error message??

Also, OS is Operating System, do you have Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and is it 32 or 64 bit?

Regards,

It said I have/had an infection in my computer and that I must "fix now". Also it had a litle red and white x on it.

I can't remember what /exactly/ it said, but something similar to above.

Windows 8 is what I have.

Hi,

I suggest you visit one of these malware forums and get in touch with a specialist who will assist you and help you eliminate the infection.

Hi flower_lady, and welcome. There is a function in the User Screen for you to click Support/Get Support, which will run the Auto Fix Function.

You could run that to see if it fixes anything, and you get your green tick back in the tray icon.

Alternatively, run a Norton Full Scan, and see if that finds and fixes anything.

You might want to try these suggestions, before getting onto the free malware removal forums.

It's not really letting me do a full scan..

All it says is "fix in progress.. please wait.."

What version of NIS are you running ? You can check by going to the Support Tab/ About, and it will be something like version 21.2.0.38.

20,4,0,40

That's the version I have right now.

Ok. That's a previous version.The latest version is v 21.2.0.38.

You can update for free to that version, which may fix this problem, as it will give you a fresh install.

Did you want to do that ?

Yes!

Hello

To me, it sounds like you have one of those fake malware reports and if you click on Fix Now, it actually does install some malware onto your computer. I would go to one of the malware removal sites as has been suggestd and don't try to fix it on your own. Since you are having problems running a Norton scan and the Norton Auto Fix has problems, it seems like you have a malware problem. It's always ok to stop at one of the free malware removal sites just to have a checkup as  you take a child for a checkup every so often even if they aren't sick. They do have the proper tools and know how to tell if everything is ok or not. If things are ok, no harm has been done. In the worse case, you might have to reinstall your Norton product. Thanks.

Ohh! I will!

Hi,flower_lady. What floplot has said is possible, so it's your choice.

If you right click on your tray icon, and click on Check for new version, it will direct you to the Norton Update Center.

If you elect to go to one of the malware removal forums, you can always update later.

Thank you:)

You're welcome !
