QUICK SCAN APPEARS FROZEN

Before I do anything else, I confess to being an impatient technophobe. Whenever I get any kind

of error message, my default response is "Explain precise nature of error, and tell me how to fix

it", to which, of course, I never get an answer.

I am being told to run a virus/spyware scan, but when I started a quick scan nothing happened. I

logged out for a while, and when I logged back in, the message box said "Fix Complete", but 

although the quick scan was "Already Running", nothing was happening, and I am still being told

I need to run a scan. Is this another manifestation of the ongoing security glitch?
