Quick scan takes very long

Hi,

I have a problem regarding the quick scan. Recently, when the PC was idle, the hard drive was working for over one hour (the light was flashing). I thought that Norton would perform a full scan in the background but later I checked the history and saw that a quick scan was performed and that it took over an hour (normally it takes 5-6 minutes). I then performed it manually again but when scanning for SecurityRisk.FlushDNS it didn't proceed (I think it would take a long time again to continue).  I couldn't even stop the scan.

A reboot didn't solve the issue.

Is this a problem with a recent Live Update or is it my PC?

I am using Norton Internet Security 2014 and Windows 7 64 Bit.

Thanks in advance

Hi chris4565:

Symantec is aware of the problem and forum administrator Tony Weiss will be posting an update in kiwih's thread here when they find a solution.

------------
MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * Firefox 24.0 * IE 9.0 * NIS 2013 v. 20.4.0.40 * MBAM PRO 1.75.0.1300
HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

My Quick Scan just completed in two minutes, so either the problem is fixed, or it's an intermittent one for some people....

Windows 7 64 Bit Sp1 NIS V 21.0.1.3

I'd rather prevent it, than fix it !

Hi chris4565:

Symantec released an update for the virus definitions via LiveUpdate set this weekend that should have sovled the problem - see Tony Weiss' post here.
