Isn't Norton Utilities Premium supposed to be a Computer "Tune Up"?? Why would I need to Buy Another one, from the Same Company. What does it do Differently, from Utilities Premium?
Ultimate Help Desk? Isn't Utilities Premium Also supposed to help Fix problems?
If someone wants to see programs available from a Utility provider, Why not just have a "Do you want to see what Other utilities you might like to have?" Instead of Offering them, INSIDE the running utility??
AND Shouldn't the Symantec/Norton system SEE that you Already have Purchased AND are Using Symantec/Norton programs, that do the SAME things as the programs that are being PUSHED in the Already Installed and Running program?
I KEEP being asked to purchase Norton Utilities Premium, even though I Downloaded it and Installed it AND AM USING IT (for Over a Year).
I was NOT ASKED whether I wanted to ADD Smart Scan to My Norton.... But, it GOT THERE. When I went to run it... Hmmmm.. Should I have been MALWARE SUSPICIOUS?? "Something has Hacked my Norton Program, and ADDED a program!!!!"
I DID Run It.. First two parts took Less than 5mins. Network part was less than 20secs... WOW!!! Quick Network check!! Didn't Show what it Had Checked. Advanced Issues Didn't show Anything about what it was checking... NO Progress Bar. I left it running... Had something to eat.. Read a book. Came back... STILL RUNNING!! Still NO Idea of What Had Been Checked.. What was LEFT. I Know it was AT LEAST ONE HOUR RUNNING. NO Cancel or Pause buttons. No Show Details button. No Resolve button either. I clicked on HOME Icon, on Top of window. Got window, asking whether I really wanted to Quit the Still Running program. YES, I wanted to Quit. NOTHING SHOWN about What or Whether it had Completed anything.
AGAIN... Showing "Buy Now" inside a utility that is supposed to be watching for JUNK/MALWARE being SENT to your computer is NOT RIGHT. Image coming to mind, of a picture showing an airport runway thru the cock-pit windows, with a screen on the control dashboard saying "To continue using this App, please Purchase Windows Now!".
Like some have mentioned, I just started seeing the "SMART SCAN" button a day or two ago. I have 5 machines and only 2 of them seem to have this. I thought, perhaps, that I inadvertently agreed to update to "Premium", which is supposed to be free with auto-renew enabled. I always avoid that and click "No Thanks". Reason is because when it's time to renew, I often find Norton 360 for less money elsewhere (Amazon or online retailer running a special). However, I suspect after reading everyone's posts, this might just be showing up now in 360 and another way for Norton to get us into the premium program??
I clicked "Smart Scan" and got to the Advanced section where it has the resolve button. I did not click resolve because it offers no details about the issues, and no way to uncheck things you don't want it to mess with. I have startup programs I need regardless of what the scan recommends and don't want them disabled. I have Iolo System Mechanic for those things, and it is excellent. I don't need Premium with a one click fixes all button. I like granular control. Norton 360 is awesome for Virus/Firewall, and that's all I need...System Mechanic is superior, IMHO, for system tune up with a myriad of options. That's the best from each company. I don't care for the other offerings from either...although I certainly understand why they would want a customer to be totally in their ecosystem.
RachelAnne:The image you show is what I see. I did not used to see it. It appears to be an overlay that sits on the prior image of a hiker. I don't care about any of that.
What I care about is that when I run the smart scan it tells me what has been found and displays a RESOLVE button. When I click on resolve it automatically tries to bill me using the credit card I have on file. That sneaky attempt is bad enough but I bought an antivirus program that is supposed to resolve issues already. Why should we have to pay more fore something the program should already be doing?
Okay....Sorry.
Okay...now I appreciate that when you click on the Resolve button.... it'll try to bill you.
I've not clicked on the Resolve button.
I don't want Smart Scan resolving my junk files.
I'm thinking....I don't need Smart Scan nor the Resolve button.
@RachelAnne
Thank you for helping me understand prominently displayed "promo ad".
Thank you for helping me understand:
7. If there are items that require attention, click Resolve.
You may be directed to purchase the required entitlements to resolve the identified issues.

billbyrnes:I just received an automated update that contains the smart scan promo. I DO NOT WANT THIS. Norton needs to fix this quickly or they will lose customers. I do not want a piece of software that I pay handsomely for to have a promo ad display prominently. THIS IS NOT RIGHT.
Hi
I'm curious what "promo ad" you're seeing prominently displayed?
Smart Scan run from My Norton view displays the same My Norton view before and after Smart Scan run.
Smart Scan run from Classic view displays My Norton view after Smart Scan run.

I'm curious....are you Sign'd In?
Thanks
This is like buying a toaster and then finding out that you can buy a firmware update if you want your toast darker. I bought an anti-virus program to protect my computer online and that can scan for and remove malware. Now they want more money for the features they boasted about in advertising the product?

Why Can't promotional Offers be Turned OFF while running a Utility that might be Purchased, and used, to Keep Junk OFF of Your Computer?
An excellent question. And one we have been asking for a couple of years now, since marketing has taken over.
Run Smart Scan to keep you Cyber Safe
Smart Scan helps you identify security, performance, and network issues, and provides solutions to keep your digital life secured.Smart Scan performs the following scans:
Virus and Malware scan
Scans the areas in your computer that are most vulnerable to threats and eliminates the threats.Network scan
Scans for network vulnerabilities which include:
Weak Wi-Fi password
Weak Wi-Fi network encryption
Unprotected Wi-Fi network
Man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks
Advanced issues scan
Scans for performance and privacy issues, and notifies you with recommendations.Performance issues: Helps boost the performance of your computer by detecting:
Internet junk files

Temporary system files and recently opened documents that take up disk space and impede computer performance.

Windows junk files

Temporary internet files, expired cookies, and download history files that diminish browser performance.

Programs consuming high CPU

Programs that consume high CPU usage can slow down your computer.

Programs consuming high memory

Programs that consume high memory usage can slow down or even shut down your computer.

Startup programs

Potentially unwanted programs and programs such as trialware and utility programs can slow down your computer's startup time.

Privacy issues: Helps protect your online privacy issues by detecting:
Exposure of your geographic location
Exposure of your IP address when connected to a public Wi-Fi or unprotected network
After Smart Scan completes each category of the scan, you can identify the security status based on the following:
A green status indicates that your device and personal information are secure.
An orange status indicates that there are some issues that require your attention.
A red status indicates that there are some urgent issues against your protection that require immediate resolution.
Norton provides you with options to fix the issues detected to keep your devices and personal information safe from cybercriminals. NortonLifeLock recommends that you resolve the issues detected in the current category before you click Next and proceed to the next category of the scan.
Not all issues can be addressed by Smart Scan. Some of the fixes may involve getting additional entitlements that are not part of your current subscription plan.
If Smart Scan recommends you to get an entitlement that is not part of your current subscription plan, you can purchase the required entitlement from the Smart Scan wizard. Entitlement such as Norton Utilities Premium that you purchase gets installed and activated automatically. For other entitlements, Norton presents you with instructions on how to use them.
Ensure your device remains connected to the Internet when you run the Smart Scan. If your device is not connected to the Internet, Smart Scan is limited to virus and malware scan. In addition, ensure that you do not run any other Norton scan.
The Smart Scan feature is currently available only in the U.S.

Norton 360 Premium, takes care of Cyber.... Doesn't it?? Or else what is it doing?
Norton Utilities Premium takes care of CPU usage, cookies, Temp files, Junk files, and other things that Smart Scan is listed as doing.
Isn't there supposed to be INCLUDED Support if something goes wrong with your computer, because of Malware, if Norton 360 IS Installed AND Running???
Otherwise, WHAT am I paying a YEARLY Auto-Renew Subscription for Norton 360 Premium (which GAVE me Utilities Premium) for?
I KEEP Getting asked about ADDING Norton Utilities Premium. I HAVE IT ALREADY. ALL of the "ASKS" seem to be ADS formatted. GET THIS or you Will Get something You do NOT WANT!
What I am replying to NOW, seems to be the ENTIRE AD being sent to me, without reading my ORIGINAL COMMENT And Seeing that I RAN IT!! It also doesn't mention ANYTHING about the Over An Hour running (Advanced Issues) withOUT ANY Idea of What it Did or Did NOT do.
What does the link at top AND bottom (...22.21.1.151......) bring me to? Another Ad, or a possible fix. Nothing else said, but, the AD.
Did NOT NEED ALL that.
Why Can't promotional Offers be Turned OFF while running a Utility that might be Purchased, and used, to Keep Junk OFF of Your Computer?
FAQ: Smart Scan
Why should I run Smart Scan to resolve issues? Will not the existing Norton scans resolve this?
Unlike the existing Norton scans that scan for threats and performance issues, Smart Scan performs a comprehensive scan for viruses and malware, network vulnerabilities, performance issues, and privacy issues. Why do I see different issues at different times?
Each time you run Smart Scan, it assesses the current security, network, and system performance status and notifies you with the necessary actions best suited to resolve the issues found. Why does the main window display 'At Risk' even after Smart Scan completes and detects no issues?
This can happen when you do not have the latest virus definitions but run Smart Scan. For example, you may have not used your computer for long time and ran Smart Scan as soon as you launched Norton. In this case, Smart Scan runs with the existing virus definitions and completes the scan while newer virus definitions may be available in the Norton server. To resolve this, you must run LiveUpdate so that the latest definitions get downloaded. Can I turn off promotional offers when running a Smart Scan?
No, you cannot turn off the promotional offers that appear when you run Smart Scan. Can I fix some of the issues reported by Smart Scan at a later time?
You cannot fix issues at a later time. If you choose to ignore the issues reported in the current scan, you must run Smart Scan again and act on the issues identified.NortonLifeLock recommends that you resolve the issues detected in the each category of the scan before you proceed to the next category.
Is it possible to run the individual sections of Smart Scan separately?
No, you cannot run the different categories of Smart Scan individually. Why is it recommended not to run any other scan when Smart Scan is in progress?
Running another scan such as Quick Scan or Full System Scan can interrupt with the functionality of Smart Scan. Ensure that you do not run any other Norton scan when Smart Scan is in progress. Why is the Smart Scan showing only the 'Disconnect' option?
If you experience any issue with running Smart Scan, contact Member Services and Support for assistance.

I KEEP GETTING ASKED about Norton Utilities Premium, even though I HAVE IT, And Have Been Using it, with Auto settings, for Over a Year.
TOO MUCH BEING SHOVED AT US!!
As I noted above, someone in Norton decided that the marketing department should be running the products division. There appears to be no stopping the promos from inside the current products for other Norton services and products. And as you noted, the promos do not even tie in with your account so you do not see ads for items you already have.
I already have Norton Utilities Premium (had Norton Utilities 16 also), which I got for Free with Norton 360 auto-renew subscription.
So.. What does Smart Scan (already loaded itself with NO charge, though extra utils were being Marketed for cash) do that Premium Utilities does NOT?
Got Green checks (quickly) on first two parts, but Advanced Issues was STILL running, with NO RESULTS, after Over an HOUR. Doesn't give a CLUE how far into its "job" it is, and when it might be finished. NO Clue as to exactly what it had checked Already, and What it seemed to get "stuck" in. NO CANCEL button. I clicked on HOME Icon, on top, and was asked if I Really wanted to quit, since it was still checking.

What is that about?
Hmm, I recall My Norton - Additional Services - from before Smart Scan.
