Re-Activate with a Different Product Key

For the last two years I've had 3 PC's running NIS and all 3 linked to one product key and account. This year, I elected to link the computers to separate accounts, so I renewed one license with NIS 2013 and uninstalled NIS 2012 from the other two. Then when I installed NIS 2013 on the 2nd and 3rd PC's they automatically activated and linked to the 1st NIS 2013 product key (and original account). How can I re-activate my other PC's with my other (2nd) product key.

If you renewed your subscription, you did not get a new key.Your second and third computers would still have the subscription information, even if you uninstalled 2012. If you want different keys for each computer, you will have to purchase a new subscription for each.

Why do you need to separate the accounts? If it is just for the online vaults, you can set up different Norton Accounts for that purpose. The product activation key will still be linked to the first installation.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

The subscription was renewed on the 1st computer (NIS 2013, 2yrs, 3 PC's). I updated that computer and my expiry date was extended by 731 days, accordingly. However, as I'm in the process of purchasing 2 new laptops to replace my aging 2nd & 3rd PC's, I wished to use the remaining 2 activations of my 3-PC license on the new laptops. In order to ensure my 2nd & 3rd PC's were protected until I get rid of them, I purchased a separate 1-year NIS 2013 3-PC subscription. The purchase was not directly through Norton but an authorized vendor. So to make a long story short, I do have a second subscription (and key) for the 2nd & 3rd PC's.

Concerned that the original key might be linked to my 2nd & 3rd PC's, I uninstalled NIS 2012 from both machines before installing NIS 2013 (first through my Control Panel and then using Norton's Uninstall Tool). However, after installing NIS 2013 on the 2nd & 3rd PC's, I wasn't given the opportunity to enter the new license key; the computer automatically associated the PC with the previous key and extended the coverage for 731 days.

Normal uninstall and NRT does not remove license information.

On the 2nd and 3rd PC's click on the main UI. Under subsxription status click renew. Now click "I have a key code to enter" or such wording and enter the 1yr code you just purchased. However, when you get the laptops you may have an issue and in that case you will either need to use Norton Management or call customer support or release 2 of your 3 licenses.

Follow cgoldman's instructions to activate the older 2nd and 3rd computers with the new subscription. You can use the same Norton Account to record the second product key.

Then log into   www.manage.norton.com  with your Norton Account credentials. Click on the My Account tab and look for your just renewed subscription. Look for the listing of the installations and click on the trash can beside the installations you want to regain for the new computers. This will free up the installations for when you get the new computers.

When you do get the new computers, log into your Norton Account and click on the Download button beside the main account you want to use for the new computers. This will download and install a preactivated copy of your Norton product.

Be sure you fully remove any trial security software that comes with the new computers using the removal utility from that company. If you need help finding the removers, just post back here and someone can point you in the right direction.

Hi DeanR,

Just want to add that even though you remove the licenses for use with your new systems, the clock for the 1 year subscription started running on the date that you first activated that license, regardless of if it is used or not between the removal and the install on the new systems.

Unfortunately, when I go into the main UI on the 2nd & 3rd PC's to activate them with the new key, as cgoldman suggests, the "Subscription Status" only indicates "Active".  There isn't an option to renew.  Would this be because the subscription was recently renewed, i.e., yesterday?

Thanks... I agree. However, as I haven't been able to re-activate my PC's with the new 1-year subscritption, the clock shouldn't be running yet.

Thanks everyone for your input. The issue has been resolved! As cgoldman recommended, the 2nd & 3rd PC's needed to be activated with the new subscription key. However, as that option wasn't available in Subscription Status, a new product key can be input in the Support area of the main NIS 2013 UI, under "Enter Product Key". After which, the device can be linked to a different account.  Thanks again and I'd like to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous New Year!
