Can someone please help me.
NIS 2004 was installed on my PC when I got it. I have kept it up to date with upgrades, etc, and have renewed my subscriptions and everything. However, over the last few months, my PC was terribly slow and someone suggested that it might be Norton slowing it down, so I have uninstalled it and was going to install another product. But I have other problems with my PC now (think I need a rebuild) and so it has been suggested that I put Norton back on for the timebeing. However, I don't have the original disk so I don't know how to re-install it. I've trawled through my old e-mails and I have one dated back in 2006 (!) which says I have now created a Norton account where I can find my product registration date and product key. But it says to access that account, I have to open the main Norton product window, but obviously I can't do that now, because Norton isn't installed anymore!
How do I now found out what my product key is and other important info which I'll need if I want to re-install Norton? And can I re-install Norton without the original disk?
Helllllllllllllllppppppppppppp !!!!!!!!! :-(
If your P.C. began Running Slow, then a Virus or other Threats may be on your computer; N.I.S. 2004 may be heavy on your system. If you have not noticed any Performence slowness, then it will probably be an Interent Threat or a Program you have recently Installed.
Therefore, I would suggest Upgarding to N.I.S. 2008/2009 - sooner rather than later - when your Subscription runs out as N.I.S. 2004 may not be advanced enough to keep Threats out; plus the fact that the Virus Definitions are only Updated Weekly when you really need Daily Updates in this day and age. Also, N.I.S. 2008 is so light on the system and has many added Features compared to N.I.S. 2004.
To access your Norton account go to www.mynortonaccount.com and log in. There you should have information about what products you have registered. You can also check if you have a Symantec folder in My Documents on your computer, that might contain a textdocument with your key.
Note though that the older products (before 2006) had different keys for retail (CD) and ESD (download). If your key is a retail key it will most likely not work on a downloadable trial version.
Thank you to everyone on here who has responded to my cry for help. I will now try & do all the things you have suggested and see what happens. I will let you know how I get on - but being a non-techie, I may be some time !!
Hello! You can install NIS 2004 without the original disk. You have to download the trialware version of the product, and, if you have a valid key, it should be activated successfully. As you previously had NIS installed on your PC, the program shouldn't ask you for a product key.
