I have norton 360v5 and tried installing system mechanic 10. installation cant be completed. so i unistalled norton 360v5 and tried installing it again. it worked! but norton getting a lot of issues - backup not completing, liveupdate not working, etc. so, am i right to conclude that norton360v5 is not compatible with system mechanic 10 or vice versa? Any help on this?
I'm no expert on N360 but it does contain system tools so trying to add System Mechanic seems dangerous to me and an unnecessary complication.
Hang on for some help on this from other users with more experience on this than I have but then I deliberately avoid robotic clean up and the like.
PS Yours is not the version of System Mechanic that contains antivirus is it? If it is that's why it won't install (or should not when another AV program is present).
i appreciate your reply. i'm still waiting for possible solution/s. yes, you are right. this is just system mechanic 10 without the antivirus as i think they called it system mechanic pro.
It may help others help you if I add my boilerplate:
To get you the best advice, would you give us some more information about your system:
What version of Windows are you using including Service Packs and whether 32 bit or 64 bit as well as the Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Help or Support / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn
If you have the COMCAST version of Norton 360 / Security Suite and not the normal commercial version please be sure to tell us.
If you get any error messages please give the exact wording of them as well as any other background that could be helpful.
Norton Staff -- names in red -- do take some time off at the weekends especially since they all do their normal Norton jobs in programming etc (that's why they are so valuable here; they are not dedicated support staff!) but our users have a lot of experience and that counts a lot too.
Hi,
I have System Mechanic 10* installed on my PC, and yesterday I switched my security software to Norton 360 5.0
I have no compatibility issues with both softwares. System Mechanic is detecting Norton 360 as a security software (That means everything is Ok).
If your probelm still exist. I would recommed you:
1. Uninstall both System Mechanic and Norton
2. Restart your PC each time
3. Install both softwares again
* System Mechanic must be the standard version or you will have compatibility issues
Hope that will help

Umm, as per my read ....
The OP added SysMech10 to already installed Norton
You added Norton to already installed SysMech10
perhaps install order is a factor ?
SysMech10 real time components along with components that run at idle time ... I wonder .... ?
What does SysMech support advise
Hello
According to this article which includes what System Mechanic 10 does, there is definitely a conflict on many fronts.
. Like the previous version of System Mechanic, this version has several options in the left pane (Overview, Automated Tasks, Anti-malware, Firewall, All-in-One Tools, Individual Tools, IntelliStatus, and History), the content of which appears in the main pane when clicked
It has automated tasks, firewall. To me, this part of the description of the product and the rest of the article seems to be a product that will definitely conflict with N360.
This exerpt of the article and the rest of the article can be found here
I already tried that. remember i uninstalled norton, then installed system mechanic, then reinstall norton again. system mechanic worked but norton is getting a lot of issues.
I have:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
Norton360v5
System Mechanic 10
Hello sherwin
Exactly. You are getting issues with Norton's because the 2 programs are fighting with each other. Both programs have firewalls. You can not run 2 firewalls at the same time when they are both software firewalls. It's not going to matter on the order that you install the 2 products. Another program that runs in real time and does many of the same functions is going to conflict and cause problems. One program may appear to work correctly, but it's going to cause problems with Norton's. Thanks.
Hi floplot. I think that would be true if i have system mechanic pro which has the system shield feature/firewall but i think system mechanic 10 doesnt have firewall.
Here is the exact error message everytime i tried to run system mechanic 10: The component "ioloSystemService" is required for system mechanic to operate properly and could not be started.(2)

sherwin,
One solution would be not to even try to use System Mechanic ..... ! Maybe SM 10 is fixed but doing some searches on that mission iolo file/service brings up stories of trouble trouble trouble ...
Although about ealier versions check out this Customer Review on Amazon:

and you'll see what I mean including the difficulty of getting rid of it.
I don't know what the tool that Microsoft told the user to use but it might be a couple of utilities that the folk here will know for seeing what is actually running on your computer and disabling/removing it.
Note also the reference to Revo Uninstaller which is one tool I use for a greater cleanup than the uninstall in WIndows Remove Programs which is supplied by the application being removed. Revo lets you choose additional stages of cleaning after the initial Windows one, lists what it proposes to do and lets you uncheck any you might not be certain about.
Let's face it, what do you really need that is not in Norton 360 V5 ? <s>
If you decide to follow that route let us know and see what utilities and steps are recommended -- I have one in particular for Revo that has caught me out (not harmfully) until I worked out why something was not being done ....

I was aware of the difference but they come from the same stable and are likely to have commonality except for the known additional functions in pro. I did not find that your links added any actual information on problems with it nor the quality of support.
However, the crux of my message was << Let's face it, what do you really need that is not in Norton 360 V5 ? <s> >>
@ huwyngr
<< I did not find that your links added any actual information on problems with it nor the quality of support >>
Is there any proof the issue is Norton related ?
Is there even a hint the issue is Norton related ?
If the OP wants to run a superfluous app.
I offered reviews for System Mechanic to bolster your position.

Thanks for the clarification ...
No more proof than of the classic context menu where WINDOWS + N360 + PD crashed. Remove N360 -- no crash. Remove PD -- no crash. End cause -- Windows module updated; Norton updated; out of date programming in PD ..... once fixed all three lived happily everafter ....
Appears by my eyes that OP may not be alone....

offered just for general info on product issues and vendor
Were it my issue ... I would seek product support from the vendor.
The quality of vendor support equals the quality of the product for me.
