Issue abstract: Realtek Audio driver not functioning

Detailed description: used Norton driver updater on 9-21-25 to update Windows 11 drivers. on completion, Realtek high definition audio driver failed to work- no sound, Windows says “driver can’t start Code 10”. Implemented Norton “revert” routine to go to an earlier version of the driver- that failed to remedy the issue, Similarly tried earlier versions of the driver as shown in Windows - no success. Norton systems say I will be notified when the drivers are updated! Do I really have to pay Norton with Norton+ to fix a problem they created! UNacceptible . I am on Windows 11 and very frustrated with Norton

The issue with bad drivers from third party software like Norton is a known issue in these forums.

The advice is always to not update via these third parties because you might render your system without sound or worse.

You should try the manufacturer’s website or your PC manufacturer’s website for the latest version.

I went to Realtek’s website and was unable to find Windows 11 high definition audio drivers? I have a HP Envy x360 laptop

Go to HP website they have many drivers in the support section. Find your HP Envy model and find the drivers.

will give that a try- stay tuned and thanks

These drivers should work for your laptop. It doesn’t matter if they are for Windows 10, they should install without any issues.

Do you run Recovery which creates Restore Points at various times? If so, could you try rstoring to a point BEFORE Norton interfered, if so it MAY reinstate registry as it was before that & reinstall your previous OK driver. It may take a time to complete a full restore. Another way perhaps to try first is through Device Manager itself, open Audio Driver by double clicking, open top tab ‘Driver’ & click on 2nd Item, ‘Update Driver’ & see if that finds a better Windows driver, if so, try installing that..

.The only problem when a third party updates Windows drivers - you cannot roll them back from Device Manager so cannot guarentee this will work. NEVER use a third party to update drives - Only Windows & the manuafacture’s drivers will do the job, even then it may not available to roll that back

@Richard_Vanderploeg What is your status? Just following up.
