Is the rebootless patching on Windows Vista now supported? I'm asking this because during the beta testing it was only supported in Win7 and 8, but now the 20.2 update post says this:
"- Enhanced Rebootless Patching feature (Rebootless Patching not supported on Windows XP)" So I assume this is now supported in WinVista, Win7 and Win8?
The upgrade from version 19 (NIS 2012) to version 20.1.1.2 requested a restart.
The upgrade from version 20.1.1.2 to version 20.2.0.19 requested a restart.
These are the only two that requested a restart - other updates have not requested a restart.
On Vista:
The upgrade from version 19 (NIS 2012) to version 20.1.1.2 requested a restart.
The upgrade from version 20.1.1.2 to version 20.2.0.19 requested a restart.
These are the only two that requested a restart - other updates have not requested a restart.
Now with that said, I am wondering if this whole "rebootless" claim is something marketing folks have conjured up to enhance the saleability (ease of use) of the new "versionless" (which is really yearless) - which they also got wrong.
This is claimed:
NEW
Always up-to-date Product Version – Norton automatically sends you important product and feature updates throughout the year. The latest version installs without you needing to do anything.
To me, as a non marketing type, it appears a more correct statement would have been "The latest updates install without you needing to do anything". From what I have observed the marketing folks do not understand the different between upgrade ( which is a change of version number) as opposed to update which is a "patch" (fromlack of better term) that does in fact not change the version number. Thus I get updates bootlessly as opposed to upgrades bootlessly.
And while the software was in beta, the rebootless patching feature worked as it was described.

Comments?
I too agree it's not correctly described. To be honest, it is really not a problem (for me) if this feature won't work in vista at all, or it won't work as described in win7 and 8. I just would like to know what the "enhanced rebootless patching" mean.
Norton probably could clarify things a bit better.
On the rebootless, rebooting or whatever, there have been those in other posts, that have 'went on', trying to avoid the word complain here, which is everyones right to do, that they have to reboot, or restart as I prefer.
Whatever the outcome of the version 20 products and beyond, I figure it's not going to wear out my arm to reach over and click Restart with the mouse, no matter how many times.
Although it could be beneficial and helpful to those with medical disability not to have to restart as often concerning any software program.
