I recently received the usual, something to the effect of, “Sir, we are calling because your computer is indicating a number of errors and we will remotely connect to your PC to help resolve these issues…” The gentleman said that he was from Microsoft, however, i threw him a bit of a curve when i said, “That’s funny, the ID indicates Verizon.” At that point, he tried to explain it away, but, whatever. I just simply said (which isn’t even a lie) thanks, i’m pretty aware of the problems that are inherent with my system. On some level, i try to still be respectful even though it’s pretty obvious what they are trying to do. I guess i feel conflicted, because, perhaps they are in dire financial straits that they feel the compulsion that they have to get money any which way they can to feed their families. Yet, at the same time, i feel terrible for those whom they have already scammed. Sad to see that we have come to this place.
Bottom line, if you happen to receive a call from: (212) 630-2011 it can be safely disregarded.
