Recovering Data from External Hard Drive

Hi, I was  starting to restore a backup when the mother board died on my laptop.  I purchased a new laptop today, have it up and running and now when I try to restore the data from that external hard drive the computer says it has to be formatted.  I do not want to format it as I need all the data, pics, etc that are on that drive.  Evidently the table of contents got corrupted and the computer no longer can read it.  How can I recover this data without having to format my drive and without paying an arm and leg to have it done. 

 

Does anyone know the name of a program that I can purchase to do this for me.  I await your input.  Thanks for your help.::smileyfrustrated::

I'm always reluctant to help with partition recovery because I prefer to have the system in front of me.

It's always better to work on a hard drive that is physically attached to the systems motherboard.  Doing this over USB on an external drive may not work at all.

But it shouldn't cause any damage to go though the steps, just do not click the "Finish" button to apply the changes unless you can correctly "see" the data.

The main causes of data lost  include accidental partition deletion, improper formatting of hard disk, virus infection and hardware or software malfunction. In such cases only a good data recovery tool would help you out. But make sure don't buy the software without checking it out, most of the data recovery tool provide free to trial version of their product using which one can preview the data which can be recovered but to save that data you have to pay them. So my suggestion is to first try the tool before actually making up your mind to buy that tool. I had success in the past with Kernel for Windows Data Recovery tool, you can check it out also.

In this situation, there is no other way without formatting your external hard drive you cannot use it further. I know when you format the drive you will lose your data. But nothing to worry, you can perform formatted external hard drive recovery by using the hard drive recovery software.
