I am new to the forum, and would like some help with a recurring virus alert I am getting from Norton Internet Security which is version 16.17.2.10. I can't remember exactly when this started, but probably a week or two ago, and now it's every reboot.
The notification from NIS is that there is a detection of either HACKTOOL, TROJAN HORSE, or TROJAN.MALSCRIPT!HTML and that the autodetect tool has safely dealt with the problem. However, after rebooting the message returns, and again apparently dealt with safely.
In addition, I am also running Windows Defender, and it too notifies me after every reboot that there is a virus and it is either TROJANDOWNLOADER:WIN32/RENOS or TROJANDOWNLOADER:WIN32/FAKEINIT. It too safely removes the virus and indicates that the computer is running normally. However, once I reboot I get the same messages.
Further, I cannot use Task Manager and my desktop background has been altered to a plain blue screen (icons intact). The ability to change the background has been disabled. I am not a sophisticated computer user but I have figured out how to look at the registry and there are HKEYs that have been added to disable the Task Manager and Background. I can delete them and get the Task Manager back, but the Background cannot be altered. I assumed it required a reboot, but since now that it occurs every reboot it's turned into a cycle that can't be corrected.
Can anyone help with this??
