why is there a red exclamation point in the norton icon in the tray? System is secure--just did a scan...
If you click on the icon, the Norton screen should come up and tell you what is wrong. There should also be a Fix button to correct the problem.
Hi, jw5745; welcome to our community!
That icon is just Norton telling you that "something" important needs to be attended to. Often, it's as simple as needing to update your virus definitions (you may see this if your computer has been off for a few days, or has not been connected to the Internet) or if you don't use Norton's backup service and have set it to manual, but haven't disabled it altogether (there, it's just saying you're not fully secure because you haven't run a backup lately).
In short, it's probably nothing to worry about (doesn't mean you've gotten infected--or that your Norton is acting screwy). The instructions @peterweb gave you should set you right in no time!
Let us know how it goes!
