Red X For Email Pictures

I just recently had Norton installed in place of  another security system and changed my IP provider from Comcast to Verizon Fios. Now when I get email pictures sent to me, the pictures are replaced by red x’s in blank boxes. This didn’t happen when I had Comcast as I could send the whole email as an attachment and many emails were sent to me by someone with Comcast  (who also sent the whole email as an attachment. Verizon doesn’t allow sending the whole email as an attachment, but they do have a slideshow button that shows the red X’s as very small pictures. Could Norton Security be blocking the picture images so I get red X’s?

HI Holly

Which Norton product are you using and which version and year? I have Verizon DSL and have no problems getting pictures by email. You can check your email settings for Verizon also. I doubt if Fios email is that much different from DSL. You could also check your modem/router or router to see if anything there is blocking the pictures. Also check to see that you have the latest Java and adobe flash player installed. Hope this helps with your problems.

Good point!  In your Verizon Webmail account, click on the Mail link under My Settings and you will see the option to allow or block images.

Hi SendOfJive

Thanks:)

To all who responded:  I have Verizon  broadband and and use Verizon email. I have Vista so Windows Mail is there  instead of Outlook Express. As I stated I use Verizon for my email and don’t use Windows Mail, so I don’t  know what settings are on Windows Mail or if that would matter. My Verizon email  settings are  checked to allow images. Someone else in my family who talked with a Verizon tech has said the tech said Verizon will  not allow the entire email to be sent as an attachment as Comcast does. That was a real plus for having Comcast. I hope Verizon  changes and then there won’t be a problem. If you Google this problem , it shows many people have this problem. We did at first with Comcast but then learned Comcast had a fix— that is sending the whole email as an attachment.

Hi Holly

Have you installed the latest Java and the latest Adobe Flash player? I think that pictures that come thru like that could be caused by Java also. People send me pictures by email and I don't have that problem. Are these people first saving the pictures to their hard drives and then sending them as an attachment? Also, please have them send pictures that aren't huge. If the pictures cause the emails to be too large, then they might be broken apart also and won't zip back together again. Do you use the Verizon webmail? You also could just have the emails forwarded instead of trying to have a whole email as an attachment.
