Phil said red x for "Intrusion Protection" might be related to backups, although it is not clear to me how he was able to backup a guest account in the first place.
thanks...j

<< However, is it not worth you trying and reporting back ?>>
Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear but I will not have access to the machine where I installed the 360 for about a week since I had to move it to another location. I am not willing to install on another machine until I find out more (since my NIS 2008 machines are all working at present)....hence, I asked that someone with an XP machine try the hack, etc.
Also there seem to be posters who have gotten access to Guest accounts as Admin but no one has said how they did that
I will try all suggestions which I have not already done asap.
thanks...j
<<if I could be sure that I understood all the users issues here. The trouble is, I dont.>>
There is only one issue..the only thing which does not work is on the Guest account where there is a red x indicating that "Intrusion Protection" is off amnd also a popup which confirms "Not Protected" in the Guest account.
Everything else is working fine everywhere else. Everything updated and all correct.
thanks...j
As stated in this thread, our team is working to resolve this issue, and has been able to resolve some instances of its occurrence.
The team is aware of the concern over this issue, and is working
to find a resolution for the customers who still see this problem.
Thank you for letting us know you are still seeing the problem, and please keep us updated on the status.
I can advise the following:
I have reproduced the following on two machines (reluctantly): I believe this confirms several users with the same or similar issues. I do not believe this is the only issue concerning guest accounts. Please note I have not tested the following user "Guest" but only with a Limited account status user.
1. Using WinXP SP3 and Norton 360 V2, with administrator account only previously set up.
2. Control Panel, User Accounts.
3. Turn Guest Account on. (this step may be redundant).
4. Create one new account, with "Limited" status. We call this the Test user.
5. Switch user and log on into New Account created in 4, i.e. Test user..
6. There is a pop up "Your computer is not protected from Intrusion attempts", and then disappears.
7. Open Norton 360 Main Windows.
8. PC Security has red X and below "PC Security" it says 'At Risk", and Norton offers a fix button agains the banner "At Risk . Your PC is not protected from Intrusion Attempts."
9. Any attempt to fix or access "My Network" results in following message:-
"You need to be an administrator to perform this action."
10. Run quick scan and backup, no problems.
11. Switch to administrator account
On one machine I then got Norton 360 Alert search page protection. ie4unit.exe has changed the search page settings for Internet Explorer. The risk path is listed and the date/time. Followed by the question "Do you want to restore the original settings?
I restored.
12. Norton 360 Main Windows has 4 green ticks.
13. Change Limited Account to Administrator.
14. Switched to limited account - no change.
15. Logged off from Limited account.
16. Logged off from Administartor Account.
17. Logged in to Test user. I immediately see "Fix" in red against banner of opened Norton Main Windows resolve and the banner change to Protected.
18. I log off Test user and log on as Administrator
19. I change Test user a/c back to Limited a/c type.
20. Log off Administrator , log back into Limited Test user.
21. Initially the icon is green but soon changes to red, and the position is as in 8. above.
22. Run Security Inspector and no problems found on either browser settings or network address.
23. Run Diagnostic Report. Besides PC Tuneup being still wrongly marked as Disabled, Operational Status overall and PC Security are marked "At risk".
I have forwarded this issue to Symantec and they confirm,as Tony Weiss has already stated, that there is already a "bug" report in the system on this already. It is too early to say if this is merely cosmetic or not. No presumptions should be made. When there is more to report, I'm sure a Symantec employee will update this forum. There is no point any more people reporting this issue.
If anyone has related issues not covered by the above then it would be helpful to reset them out in the same format.
I'm leaving this now and moving on to other issues.

I'm running Norton 360 v.2.3.1.4 on WinXP Pro SP2, and I've had the same problem as others here - red X displayed on "Intrusion Protection" in Limited User Account, but not in Admin Account. I tried what someone iin this thread suggested - here is the result:
So that didn't work either.

Can you guys please take a look at this fix another user has tried on his Vista system for a Red X - Intrusion Protection issue, it’s post number 11 in this thread. It seems to have worked for him, if someone could reproduce the result it would be a big help, thanks.

Hi Everyone,

This will address the issue Intrusion prevention turned off in Limited User account or in Guest user account. It is resolving.
Please run LiveUpdate to get the latest patch.
Other contributors have certainly reported issues relating to red X. I presume you have searched this forum.
Always worth you posting operating system and release, and your version for Norton 360.
Your question is difficult to answer because you have come to a Norton forum for Norton products. I am not sure that the red x is anything more than cosmetic.
