hi doora - it sounds like your search preference has been hijacked. a hijack this log would likely reveal something like this:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://yoursearcher.com/sp.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://yoursearcher.com/index.htm
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://yoursearcher.com/index.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://yoursearcher.com/sp.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://yoursearcher.com/index.htm

(this would be if you were using ie - would be different for a different browser). blank these settings and you should be able to regain control.

also, i'd recommend checking your bho's as long as you are at it. in IE, that is from the Tools / Internet Options / Programs / Manage Add-Ons (there is also a spot to reset your IE preferences to defaults search and home pages).

let us know how it goes.

Hi Mel.

I didn’t fined anything in my register, but I did disable a number of Add-ons which were marked as not verified. I also disabled some which I didn’t recognise and the problem appears to be solved.

I will try to identify the culprit and trash it.

It really was a nuisance, thanks for the help.
