really this is not attempting to be clever, as a guru could you tell me is the “Driver update required” message a scam or is the Norton Driver Updater useless?

I do not run Norton Driver Updater.
Caveat: I ran Norton Driver Updater trial. I did not update drivers via Norton Driver Updater.
